Sniff. I really liked Jade Empire. The combat's shallow, but it was still nifty-wifty.

Mind you, I'm easily pleased. No where near as fussy as Lou.

I think the trick to liking JE is to not think of it as a fully fledged RPG.

It depends on how you see it, I think. It lacks the character customization options of a DnD game like NWN. The leveling process is pretty basic, which I think fits the action-RPG formula.

Story wise, however, I think it pretty much offer the same or larger amount off choice in directing the story as any available competition, bar perhaps the Gothic games.

Great storyline two and it shamelessly stole KoToR's good/evil system and used it to better effect.

Until the end when you can make one good/evil decision which completely negates everything that went before it.

Well, that is a fault it shares with KotOR as well. Not so much with KotOR II though. Mostly because that ending didn't seem to connect with what you had done previously in any way at all.

It was a bit of a Deus Ex moment, where you save before the event, then you can see all the endings without having to play through again.

I enjoyed it, it's worth a play. I liked the kung fu setting, and yeah the combat is a bit shallow but I found it worked well. if you like old kung fu movies you'll probably like it

    So, yes.

Fussy, me? Pah! I like more types of games than most people here. Cultivated, but broad taste FTW! :)

Heh, Ahab. You just put me right off for now. Cheers, I guess. :)

    You lot are no help!

I can only agree to the 'way overhyped' post. This is a game you really want to like, but in the end, I just didn't. It's prolly among the games I least liked, but played through. I game for about 23 years. I love RPG's, dunno why it didn't click for me. Maybe because the fights are pants and make it kinda action-adventurish.

I found it boring, formularic and the combat wonky as hell.

It was great. It followed Bioware's traditional setup but it was still a nice little game. The comabt was just fine. Far better than KotOR and not particulary shallow compared to any run of the mill hack and slash game.

I was about to play this for the first time over continuing where I left off in KOTOR II, but after reading this thread I'm not so sure!

I tried to play the KOTORs but never got sucked into them, whereas Jade Empire, I actually played through pretty quickly when I first tried it on Xbox, I liked the setting even if the combat was a little simple and the twists a little predictable.

One of my favourite games ever. If you like kung fu films at all, then you should definitely play it.

I thought it was great fun, one of Bioware's better games for me. It was one of the reason's I brought the original Xbox.
