Does anybody know what Gamestation give when trading in a game?

Say for example if they sell pre-owned for £20 what'd you likely get back if you traded that title to them.

I know Cex give you half, but with GS i'm not sure.

If they do it like we do at Game, it's not set by what price it sells at. It can vary wildly based on factors which only the head office are aware of.

Gamestation's motto is... "We Won't Be BEATEN On Trade-Ins" which is an absolute load of shit. I decided to trade-in my PAL Gamecube collection which consisted of 2 consoles, 65 games, dance mat, 2 X bongos and an extra official wired pad.

I rang their Grainger Street store in Newcastle and was assured that they would match CEX UK’s trade in prices. I packed all the items and rang the store a second time to verify that they would match any other stores trade-in prices and the sales assistant said “As long as you have written evidence of www.cex.couk trade-in prices we’ll match them.”

So I printed out the CEX trade-in prices for the 65 games and other gaming sundries from their website; the total job lot had a trade-in value of £545.90. I paid £10 to travel into town in a taxi as I had too many bags to take the bus and Metro. I arrived at Gamestation and the staff began running my collection through the till. The staff was amazed at the pristine condition of my collection. It took about 15 minutes for them to scan everything and then we had the moment of truth “£289.50” said the sales assistant.

“WTF have you not missed scanning some of the items?” “No that’s the lot I’m afraid” replied the assistant. “Then what about the Gamestation promise of We Won’t Be Beaten On Trade-Ins?” I asked. The assistant told me “These are the same trade-in prices that you’ll get from any Gamestation store in the UK.” After about 10 minutes of negotiations I was told “My best option would be to carry my collection to the CEX store on Pilgrim Street; trade my collection for cash and come back to Gamestation to buy the Elite.”

Taking my gear to CEX wasn’t a viable option; due to the fact that I was assured that Gamestation would match any trade-in deal I didn’t bring any photo ID with me. The reason why I was trading in my Cube collection was to take advantage of the Gamestation Xbox 360 Elite console and Blue Dragon for £299.99. I’m not a member of CEX UK and because they only trade in second hand goods they would not have had an Elite console available on Friday.

I didn’t even have enough spare cash on me to get a taxi back home with my stuff; I had 6 bags of Cube gear and was left up shit creek without a paddle. The assistant said “You can go home and think about” “What is there to think about? You got me here under false pretences and have offered me a pittance for my gear.” I reluctantly accepted their offer and thought that I’ll put this down to experience; after having time to reflect on the situation, I decided to phone head office and complain and I offered them a new motto into the bargain. “You Won’t Be Beaten But You’ll Certainly Get Mugged On Trade-Ins.”

Gamestation are utter shit now. There is absolutely no point in them existing now they've been bought out, which was obviously Game's intention anyway.

Tis sad, I cant even bring myself to go in these days. The prices are shit now and it also smells of B.O/ fried food (even more than C.E.X).

    C.E.X ftw! (

My nearest Gamestation is still pretty good. Traded in a bunch of stuff yesterday and they offered me more than both Blockbuster and GAME.

    FFXII was £10 cheaper too.

Is anybody on here a GS employee that wouldn't mind either posting trade-in prices for these or if they prefer to do it by PM, to PM me the prices? Just finished loads of games recently and could do with putting some money towards a 360/PS3.

    All UK, mint, etc.

    WarioWare Smooth Moves (Wii)
    Tetris DS (DS)
    Mario Kart DS (DS)
    Fable (XBOX)
    Tales of Eternia (PSP)
    Midtown Madness 3 (XBOX)
    Mario Strikers (Wii)
    Destruction Derby (PS1)
    Destruction Derby 2 (PS1)
    Buffy The Vampire Slayer (XBOX)
    Super Mario Sunshine (Gamecube)
    Mario Kart Double Dash (Gamecube)

Preferably prices for each so I can decide whether to keep hold of some or not. I've tried phoning my 'local' one but they won't give prices out over the phone and it's quite a few miles away and can't actually get there for the next couple of weeks due to work commitments so I'd have to get someone else to take them in for me.

Why they haven't got a trade-in price checker on their website is beyond me, it would make life so much simpler.

    Cheers in advance.

I found the gamestation at Cramlington to be better or even the Metro Centre one.

I traded in my review copy of that shitty Boogie title with the mic, and they gave me a cool £35. Better than a kick in the balls.

There shouldn't be any trouble there, as you're not trying to buy the 18+ games from them. But remember that if you're selling them for cash, as opposed to trading in, then you'll need to take along some ID.

Another factor they consider is the number of copies of that particular game / console they have in stock at that store.

I had a little scam going with Tesco which ended up with me trading in multiple copies of certain titles. Multiple titles in one transaction all got the same value - however do it over a number of days and the trade in value reduced as the number of titles they had increased.

Supply vs demand - it`s pretty straight forward stuff.

(I got £20 for DS Mario Kart a month ago - must have been in demand)

Anyone know what Gamestation would offer for this trade in?

Nintendo Wii Console (Boxed with Instructions, Stand & Cables)
    2x Wii Remotes
    2x Nunchucks
    Classic Controller
    Wii Sports
    Wii Play
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
    Official Nintendo Component Cable

I'd sell it on here but I'm too lazy to pack it up and send it. Plus I can't be bothered checking everything is still in perfect condition.

It also has a couple of Virtual Console games on the HDD (or flash memory, whatever) and the Opera web browser.
