Don't hold your breath guys, its only going to be available in the US, on one network. It is a GSM device though, so if you could find someone to unlock it, it would work over here, but I don't think its going to be that easy to get the device unlocked.

Nope, its sold with a 2 year contract, and its exclusive to Cingualr/AT&T. Can you imagine you'd let customers walk off to a different network?brokenkey wrote:
It'll be sold unlocked, I'm pretty sure.

Meh, a MiniSD would make it quite a lot better.
SD slots, no chance. But expect 3rd parties to offer card readers that dock with it. -

I was wondering whether to e-mail some of this to Penny Arcade? Tycho/Holkins has been eulogising about his new Zune for the last few updates to a point where I was getting nauseous.
Let's face it though, Apple have made one huge mistake with this.
They should have made it brown. -

Registered 8 years agoHmmm... my first thought was "quite shiny, but I'm not all that interested in phones".
Then I looked at the specs and thought "uh-oh, only 5 hours talk time? That'll be a lot of recharging then!"
Still, it's pretty nice, so maybe when my ipod dies and I need a new phone, I'll have a lookk at this one.
Any idea how easy it'll be to use this thing with Windows? Reckon Apple will support it from the off, or will Windows users be relying on shoddy 3rd party apps while waiting for windows iTunes etc. to sort the bugs out?
By far the most exciting thing about it is the "multi-touch" technology that's finally starting to see the light of day, which I've been gagging for ever since seeing this video: Multi-Input touch screen
In my mind, multi-input touch is a *very* important step forward for user-interfaces and quite a paradigm shift from the old "1 mouse, 1 point of contact" system... very interesting tech. -

IF so, then I guess that's in line and cool then.gif)
PS - I'm watching this vid of it's ipod features: http://www.apple.com/iphone/ipod/
When you turn the phone on it's side the display swivels from portrait to go landscape/widescreen - that's slick as fuck :-D -
As long as it's compatible with something other than Windows iTunes. Horrible software, it is.
Lovely and nice on OSX, though. -

Well, not of this phone if I'm reading it correctly, which is a big minus for me, but I just used it as an example. 3G phones have a talk time usually under 5 hours. One of the early Nokias is something like 1 hour 45 minutes.Gremmi wrote:

Oh okay - it's not as bad as I thought then. I'm not really "into phones" (avoided getting one for years) so I wouldn't know what's a good amount of talktime and that

BTW - I guess I'm expecting the moon on a stick, but I use the camera on my phone a lot nowadays and was eyeing one of those Sony Ericsson cybershot phones next (just cos it's 3MP and it's got a proper flash)... anyone reckon they'll do an "iPhone 2" in a year or two's time with a camera on it as well? Seems like it's got everything else covered apart from a camera :-/ -
