    New trailer for Smaug.

Smaug speaks! Legolas! Err...what's the film based on again?

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

Goosebumps from me. Dol Goldur is going to be great. So glad he's dramatizing it. Curberbatch's voice is great for Smaug. Wonder if we'll see him as Sauron?

Ive seen photos of him in a mo-cap gimp suit, so unless they were doing that for smaug, it seems likely.

Nice. The whole trilogy for me is the Gandalf/Sauron/(Saruman?) side plot. Bilblol etc.

Fair play to Armitage, however. He is very good.

Looks like they're actually giving whatshisname (Bard) of Dale some semblance of character as well. A lot in there that gets me excited.

    ....and then Legolas. Ah well.

Legolas was so cool in the books, and so rubbish in the films.

I liked him when the films first came out. Now it's just Orlando Bloom but I'm sure he'll be fine.

He wasn't particularly egregious in The Fellowship, to be fair. It was really from that chase section of the Two Towers where really the wonderful combination of cheesy lines and Orlando Bloom trying to be earnest really took off.

He also got ruined a bit by the Pirates of the Caribbean films, after which people realised that him being a emotionless, robotic pretty boy wasn't just him acting out an elf. Rather, that was all he could do.

Although his bit in Extras was pretty funny.

I really want to go see this one. Watched the first last night and I love it. I noticed the following line of dialogue which I thought funny:

Gandalf: Every good story deserves to be embellished

I can't remember if it's a line from the book but it seems to be relevant given all the shit Jackson has received for stretching it out into three films.

I need to give the first one another go, I thought it was fucking dreadful. Far to much CGI and uninteresting plot. I fell asleep before the end. And I'm a pretty big LOTR geek.

Going this Friday at the 5:50pm showing, sitting in seat M16 on the IMAX in 3D and in a HFR.

... looking forward to it very muchly!

    : )

The reviews are a fair bit more enthusiastic this time round too, compared to the lukewarm-ish reception the first one received. I'm most excited about seeing Beorn for the first time as he is by far and away my favourite character in the book.

I'm going 3d standard frame rate, didn't enjoy the hfr of the original.

    Can't wait.

You really shouldn't return to the scene of the crime. You'll only feel worse for it.

I went to see The Hobbit twice.

... first time, in HFR and the second time in 2D on a 'normal' screen.

For a spectacle like The Hobbit, seeing the film the second time in 2D was surprisingly not-very-involving whereas the HFR actually made me feel like I was there. I know the HFR has its critics however, I found it quite hard watching the film in a lesser way.

I didn't see the film in HFR first time around. Going to give it a go this time out of curiosity.
  • Deleted user 11 December 2013 14:16:52
For me it wasn't that bad it was just distracting.
  • Deleted user 11 December 2013 14:23:50
I'm not sure if I did or not. I saw it in the imax so would it have been? Wasn't sold on the film either way but part 2 is apparently a lot better.

@nickthegun That's brilliant and caught me totally off guard (bdum tsh) :-).

I saw the movie last night and even though it's spectacular enough to watch, I was disappointed in the story. It's all so illogical.
I decided to write a review for IMDb, here it is: Decent fantasy-action slightly based on The Hobbit. I hope some will find it useful.

I so thought Gandalf's introduction of the Dwarves to Beorn was going to be the opening scene of the movie... instead the whole character is reduced to a 10 minute scene, of which half is action. :/ A missed chance if you'd ask me!

Haven't seen the new one yet but seriously considering watching it in 2d and standard frame rate.

While the 3d effect was 'cleaner' and more effective in HFR, it completely took out the immersion. Basically made the film look like a bunch of guys in fancy dress outfits, and the epic battle scenes looked like animated miniature toys.

Watched it last week on Bluray and my god it was it much more enjoyable.

Just come back from watching this. On the whole, it was very entertaining. I did go to the 3D viewing, but still think there is a long way to go before 3D appeals to me.

Second film I have seen in 3D, and the 3D in The Hobbit was far better implemented than Judge Dredd.
