    GTA 1940s Chicago?

Oh please, that could royally rock but it's more than that...a bit from the press blurb.

    L.A. Noire
Rockstar Games, in partnership with Team Bondi, are developing L.A. Noire, a ground-breaking next generation crime thriller. L.A Noire is an interactive detective story set during the classic late 1940's noir period in a perfectly recreated Los Angeles before freeways, with a post-war backdrop of corruption, drugs and jazz. L.A. Noire will truly blend cinema and gaming with action, detection and complex storytelling that will draw players into an open-ended challenge to solve a series of gruesome murders.

    Site is here

As a big fan of film noire, really hoping this turns out to be something special.

    That does look awesome.
The fact that it's only produced by Rockstar and not written by them helps make it even more interesting.

If I was a lady, I'd be moist. That sounds so awesome.

As an Ellroy fan I can't help but be interested in this game. I hope that his LA quartet has been a big inspiration for this project.

I'd hope for something more like Raymond Chandler, although Elroy is good too

The Big Sleep and the Long Goodbye are the most famous i think. Elemore Leonard is my favourite though - Get Shorty, Cuba Libre...

Try this 3 in 1, and also The Long Goodbye

    - In a letter to his editor regarding a proofreader who had changed Chandler's split infinitives:

"Would you convey my compliments to the purist who reads your proofs and tell him or her that I write a sort of broken-down patois which is something like the way a Swiss waiter talks, and that when I split an infinitive, God damn it, I split it so it will stay split and when I interrupt the velvety smoothness of my more or less literate syntax with a few sudden words of bar-room vernacular, that is done with the eyes wide open and the mind relaxed and attentive. The method may not be perfect, but it is all I have."

Jazz in the trailer is a bit too modern for the 1940ies, btw.

Just saw this and as a fellow Chandler, Ellroy, Hammet buff I'm understandably exctited.

No news since initial announcement and trailers?

What was that game on the speccy where you're a private dick. The graphics were quite good for the time and you were a sort of cartoon cutout wibbling about isometric 3D rooms talking to people.

That's what this reminds me of.

The only one I can think of is Contact Sam Cruise.

    But that's not isometric :-(

    I totally called it.

That was a great game, well remembered!

It's not the one though, shame. I thought you had it for a tick.

Nobody's afraid of the fact that the team that develops it is lead by the guy who was behind The Getaway?

if i'm honest, i'm not holding out much hope for this title.

i seem to recall that developer (team bondi) is basically made up of staff that worked on the getaway ps2.

    meh.

Wasn't there a dick tracey game?

Edit: Oh crap. Just when this game climbed up high in my wanted list, I was told team gateaway are part of it.

    Dman.

Any more about this, other than the trailer on the website? Anyone would think Rockstar have been kind of busy....

Edit: And yes I know Peej posted the trailer already...

They really only needed to get the gameplay mechanics down, and it would be a fantastic game series. The bad controls really ruined it.

Oh well, looks like this will never happen then. A pity.

Still, there's always Mafia 2 - which looks rather sexual as well.
