To be fair, its a very early tech demo from a fair while ago, things have come along leaps and bounds since then. It would have also been their first 3D game after the ill fated Torn debacle.

rpgcodex/nma fanatics are probably the worst people on the Internet, no joke

Its true, and I've never understood it. Fallout is one of the wittiest and humorous games I've ever played and yet reading those communities they seem devoid of both.

You'd think it was a binary equation crossword puzzle they way they go on.

The idea of an oblivion-esque RPG set in a ruined London makes me do a happy little wee.

It's Washington D.C. but yeah. Europe would be a nice setting. As for Oblivion style.... let's not go there shall we.

Very pretty, but if they decide to change the feeling of Fallout to a f*ing Jerry Bruckheimer movie, i'm going to be forced to sit every member of Bethesda down and make them watch the intro's to 1 & 2 untill they fudging get it.

I am such a tard. I see the White House and I think it's St. Paul's. Never mind.

By "Oblivion-esque" I mean relatively free-roaming explorathon. Not buggy, lumbering, ambitious, vacuous game experience. ;)

Yes. You restrain them, I'll peel apart their eyelids and hold them open.

Just seen footage of a "tech demo" for this and it looks like a POS. Last gen total. I hope for it to improve. Expecting much greater things than what I saw.

Still, at least they have turn-based gameplay with the proper viewpoint.

That was by a different developer 3 years ago. Has nothing to do with what Bethesda are doing.

Not, really, no. Also no wonder it has a proper viewpoint and turn-based combat. :)

That said, considering it's just an early tech demo for internal purposes (to give Interplay an idea od how the game would feel like), I guess it would have looked good enough in the end.

    Oh yes please.

I still hope the music was borrowed from somewhere else, because it just doesn't fit.

Given its age and test status it looks fantastic. Just a pity this is the last chance we'll see a Fallout in isometric, being able to rotate the camera was nice too.

I do hope they don't fuck this right up, it looks like it's going in the right direction for now...

    The Capitol Building you mean.

    Some nice artwork.

Don't know if this is news - but I've just been pointed to this Securities and Exchange Commission filing where Interplay sketch out the business case for a Fallout MMO, starting production this January for a launch in Q3 2010.

This was reported before, the discussion didn't make it to the forum IIRC.

Anyway, Interplay making a Fallout MMOG? Time for some air freshener.

So what do you guys reckon? First person or not? Real time or tunbased? (is turnbased first person even possible?)

I'm hoping thirdperson turnbased and guess I'm not alone in doing so.

If you can read this you really need to fiddle with your forum settings.

It'll most likely be first-person real-time. Bethsoft have been quoted as saying "It's what we do best, why would we try anything different?" (more or less...can't remember their exact words).

All speculation at the moment though.

Third person perspective (hell, Oblivion can manage that), hopefully turn-based combat. The real-time version from Fallout Tactics didn't work out too well.

And it FO3 doesn't use SPECIAL, blood will be shed.

Of course they will use SPECIAL, it's so much better than any RPG-system Bethesda has ever tried.

I don't think they will. Again going back to what they were saying about it, they want to do what they do best (which, in my opinion, is overrated FPS-with-Simple-RPG-Mechanics and some cliche'd fantasy shit thrown in, with an environment that has little to no imagination or proper design behind it). I don't think they could handle saying "We can't make our own system as good as SPECIAL", because Bethsoft are a very arrogant company IMHO.

I'm hoping for the best, but to be honest, from everything i've seen of the game so far (a couple of bits of concept art and some music, which I admit isn't much) and Bethesda's history, here are my fantabulous / horifying predictions..

    1. Rather than the black humour and 50's duck and cover style of the first 2 games, Bethesda will 'Hollywood it', Its just going to end up with the feel of a Jerry Bruckheimer disaster movie.

    2. They'l abandon special and use a modified Oblivion style system.

    3. It wont be a continuation of the story, but a retelling of the first game, with you as the vault dweller, leaving 13 for the first time since the bombs dropped.

    4. It will have a scaling world like Oblivions.

    5. It wont be witty.... or funny..... In the slightest.

/Skinner voice - Prove me wrong Bethesda.. Prove me wrong :)
