Matchbook looks interesting but will likely take a while to reach this side of the pond like Autorip did :(

Wondered if this was coming, the paperwhite has been pratically non existant on amazon in the last month

I bought a Paperwhite about six weeks ago. It's alright, although the screen has very annoying shadows at the top and bottom. Although they've become extremely annoying that I've found out that there's a better one coming out. I'm somewhat pissed off, actually. I would never have bought the old one had I known the new one was imminent.

Nevertheless I have, so the only option open to me now is fraud: does anyone know how I might bork my Kindle so I can get one of the new ones under my warranty?

I would buy one if they put the physical buttons back in at the side. Touch screen only is fucking stupid.

I still have an original one with a keyboard, you know what? I can still read books on it.

Chasing the next best thing is a pointless exercise....Hurry the fuck up Nov 29th :)

Can these read .cbr and .cbz files yet without unzipping and converting them to PDF's ?

I used to be a gamer like you, then I took an arrow in the knee.

I wonder how much they've improved the backlight on that paperwhite. The old one put quite annoying spotlight shadows into the bottom of the screen.

    Kindle Fire HDX announced

Pretty impressive specs for the price. But most interesting is the (alleged) 12 hour battery life through regular usage.

    I love those origami covers!

... that's something you kind of expect Apple to come up with.

I suppose the UK price for the new 7" Kindle Fire HD shall be £189?

How can I get an AZW file onto my Kindle App on Android?
Cory Doctorow is kind enough to share his books for free in multiple versions but I can't open the file on my phone.

If you can read this you really need to fiddle with your forum settings.

Email the file to yourname@free.kindle.com address?

Give yourself £5 or ½ gig, you're worth it.

    Really?
Cool. Well, it turned out that I had been overzealous and put the file in the AZW folder in the Kindle folder on the phone. Once I moved it to the Kindle folder it showed up in all it's fugly coverlessness .

Ah perhaps not. Looks like the email functionality is only for DOC, PDF, TXT files etc..

Another option (sans-cable), save to Dropbox, assuming you have it installed on your device> If not, try the sig ;) then from Dropbox you can export the AZW file to the Internal Storage - Kindle folder and this works okay for me.

Give yourself £5 or ½ gig, you're worth it.

I use AirDroid or ES FileBrowser for file management.
Never really got on with Dropbox. I can see the point but it feels like overkill to use it to move a file from my laptop to my phone.

Looks like next month they're launching Kindle Matchbook, too. If you bought a book on Amazon any time after 1995 and they have the eBook you get a discount - you get it for either $2.99, $1.99, 99c or for free. Free would be preferable :)

    I'm a grumpy bastard.

Just got the new paperwhite, upgraded from my kindle keyboard. It's really good. The light is amazing, no shadows. Goodreads is linking up soon too.

    Goodreads integration soon?

... that's yet another great feature for the Kindle.

Still chuckling at the readers 'best' fiction prize for 2012 though.
  • Deleted user 9 October 2013 12:25:42
I'm waiting for mine to arrive in the post. Really looking forward to using it, will be my first kindle. Can't decide what book to read first on it.

Yeah, goodreads integration is happening with a software update between now and Xmas sometime......
What was the best fiction prize?

I think you're going to love it. I was blown away a few years ago with my old kindle keyboard. This one is much much better.....the screen display is a thing of beauty.

    The Casual Vacancy.

... it was not a bad post-Harry Potter book, but there were plenty of more interesting and original stories to choose from.

I bet J.K. Rowling new-ish book, The Cuckoo's Calling, will win the best fiction again this year!

    @CharlieStCloud

Haha. Was it really? I haven't read it, but it sounds a bit crappy. Like something Alan titmarsh would write.
Unfortunately people will buy anything she writes now. She should write a book under a different name, be interesting to see how well it's received without JK Rowling on the cover?
  • Deleted user 9 October 2013 13:05:34
Wasn't the casual vacancy orignally written under a different name? i think it done quite well and people were wondering who it was and it turned out to be her.
