MicroSD support huh? For those moments when you need 16,000 books stored on your device ;)

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

One thing to note about the Paperwhite is that it doesn't have text to speech. Not that the voice on the normal Kindle is exactly amazing, but it is useful from time to time.

Yeah, really is a pointless feature. I had a Sony reader once that had an SD card. All it was good for was making sure the battery life was reduced unnecessarily.

The thing about the Kindle I like the most is the thing I thought would be most pointless - the 3G connection. The ability to get books anywhere (and not have to hook up to a computer at all) is great. And syncing where you are (so I can carry on on my phone if I've got a few minutes and don't have the kindle to hand) is brilliant.

SD card on my old Sony did come in handy for a short while as I bunged some manga on there (like wire wool to he eyes admittedly) but tablets came along and, like that, the slot became utterly pointless.

Used the PW a fair bit now, absolutely love it, as close to a perfect product Ive purchased in a long time. Glad I went 3G, for syncing purpose to the phone app. Other than colour text books etc, I can't see how iBooks can possibly compete with Amazons offering.

Yeah, it is lovely and the back light makes a huge difference without ever causing any eye strain or glare. Still slightly concerned about the light bleed though.... Does yours look anything like this on the brightest setting? If you look at the bottom of it....

Yeah, mines similar at the bottom. Can't say it bothers me, and the effect is less on lowers levels. I rarely use I higher that half way.

Cool, as long as it's not just mine! Doesn't bother me either, but thought I'd check before going through the rigmarole of sending it back!

Eh? Is that the scrolling that's new in iBooks? I HATE that, I'm bad enough with websites, constantly scrolling and aligning the reading point at top of screen, I have to forcibly stop myself sometimes.

I haven't used it myself yet tbh but i think thats what they were talking about.

I can't see myself ever using ibooks, the syncing between my kindle, android phone and ipad on the Kindle app is just too good.

iBooks has other annoyances too. Way too much screen space wasted (on the iPhone) and no in-app rotation lock, which I always found very annoying.

What's the chances of getting a paperwhite before Christmas since they aren't shipping until 17th Dec? Bit of bad planning on Amazon's part surely?

They must be out of stock, I've had mine for weeks. They usually use next day delivery though.

Paperwhite, then. Is everyone happy with theirs?

Dad's asking me which on he should buy for my Mum for Christmas. Gut reaction is to recommend he gets the Paperwhite, but just thought I'd check in case everyone's decided that they hate them in the meantime.

Well if he's buying one now he won't get it by Christmas, that's for sure.

Wife and I ordered ones for each other about a fortnight ago and estimated delivery is week of the 17th December.

Having read around, the general consensus seems to be that it is a big improvement over the old Kindles. I wanted to get one myself, but it seems to be out of stock until Christmas.

Ah, didn't realise they were out of stock! That might colour things slightly then.

    Thanks, chaps!

You might strike it lucky if you live near one of the handful of Waterstones shops that has stock - check their website.

Dad just sent me a text to tell me he's just been and picked up his Paperwhite from Waterstones. You're a top banana, sir!
