Big Nog is my favorite fighter, and he looked better than he has in a long time at the weight ins. I Can't wait for him vs Werdum. I hope it goes to the ground.

I'm looking forward to see Erick Silva as well. Thiago Silva vs Feij„o should be entertaining. It's always great to see Thiago taking a beating.

edit: Oh, Daniel Sarafian is fighting as well. He's always bringing it.

I've got no clue about how good the TUF2 fighters are though.

Ah, these pesky Brazillian cards. Look boring on paper, but then...

...blam! Not a single main card fight went to a decision. Silva landing shuddering uppercuts, Jason slapping on an intense triangle, and Werdum going back to his roots with an armbar finish. Things were never boring.

Would you ever fight on a Brazillian card if you were from the UK or US? It seems almost guaranteed that you'll lose unless you're a native.

hehe, I love how Big Nog always refuses to tap. His ground game didn't look good though - he obviously knows what he's doing, but he's just becoming too slow.

Big win for Thiago Silva. He's a bit of a prick, but characters like him makes the ufc exciting.

Dana White was bitching the ref but in real time there is maybe two seconds between Fitch's last defensive movement and Burkman letting him go.

Steve Mazzagatti -- the worst referee in MMA :D

It is worrying that there's not a huge amount of transparency when it comes to what makes a person qualified to be a referee or judge. I think technocratically when it comes to refs & judging, in that you can only be qualified if you have active experience in the sport, including exposure to all aspects of martial arts that may be utilised in the cage. As far as I know Mazz has Muay Thai and boxing experience, but no Jiu Jitsu.

I have a horrible feeling Rosie Sexton is being served up as a tasty, but all too flimsy, snack for the Davis hype train this weekend...

@El_MUERkO Maybe, but he was nowhere to be seen. Any other ref would have been right on top of the situation, especially given how tight the choke was but Mazzagatti would have just waited for him to die from the looks of things.

Meh, last nights card was an exercise in tedium.

    Bring on Silva/Wiedman!

Henderson & Evans should both retire. There was no winner in that fight.

Yeah, a bit tedious that one. I'm struggling as time goes on to be honest- there's more and more bland pro athlete faces I struggle to care about and less and less of the characters we used to have.
When two older-school fighters also look like they're struggling to care, it's an issue.

It wasn't a classic PPV by any means, and considering it was the last on ESPN, my motivation to sign up for BT Sport is significantly diminished.

I pretty much agree with mcmothercruncher, it feels as though all the characters are slowly being replaced by indenti-kit athletes who are more likely to grind out a decision than display a fight-changing moment of genius.

Diaz is gone, Penn unlikely to return, and now Big Country out of contract. Only Pettis looks as though he has a style that might be worth paying to see.

If Weidmann beats Silva then I think the process will be more or less complete.

When you can't see the angles on the wall you're in trouble.

@Blakester Wait, what? I thought ESPN was going at the end of July? I was hoping to see Silva/Weidman before I had to start yarring.

Jesus, good point. A depressing point, but a good one.
Like most sports these days, they get ever more serious and involve ever more money and those stakes kinda squeeze the characters out of it.
Personally, I want Genki Sudo to come out of retirement ;)

I just watched the Burkmann - Fitch fight.

Now that's the way to finish a submission :-P

I must say my love affair with the UFC is starting to wane.

I really detest the hyper MURIKA SPORTZ style broadcasts now. It's so off putting and really adds a sheen of superficialness to everything.

I feel like the UFC is plateau-ing a bit in terms of fighter ability aswell. You've got the older guys who were so exciting 5 years ago but have now had so much success they are terrified of losing it. Most of them on fat contracts.

Then you've got the conveyor belt of identikit athletes who are pretty indistinguishable from each other. MMA was supposed to be about different styles coming together to make something exciting but the rules clearly, clearly make one style optimal, so we end up with bland fighting styles with little innovation.

/stealth "I liked it before it was cool" rant

I just wish they would ask Joe and Mike to tone it down with the 'best in the world' + 'of all time' chat on every single card.

I disagree. There are still lots of relatively young characters in the UFC -- Jones, Cerrone, Barry, Stann, Hendricks, Erick Silva, that make things interesting.

I'd rather watch a really fast-paced, close technical fights like Krause vs Stout than watch "old lions" like Evans vs Hendo wheezing their way to a decision under the illusion they are still relevant. If anything, those old guys are a bit of a burden to the sport.

Once again enjoyed the prelims more than the main card, which was a complete non event.
As Craigy said, the Krause/Stout fight was excellent

Nelson looked like his head just wasnt there, quite interesting to hear his corner tell him "were not going to go out like this", Im guessing he knows that his time is up and there wont be a new contract.
