You can read a lot of the Star Wars comics on Marvel Unlimited. It is actually much cheaper than buying them digitally. Marvel Unlimited doesn't have anything from the previous six months but it has the complete Lando, Leia, Chewbacca and about 16 or 17 issues of Vader and Star Wars with Annuals. It also has Obi Wan and Annakin and Kanan too. It's a bargain if you have a big enough tablet and you get a huge library of Marvel titles to read too.

There's also Shattered Empire which is set post Battle of Endor and is not as good as the other comics.

The 2000th issue of 2000AD is out now. One to get for posterity, perhaps. I had a digital sub for a short while but never seemed to get into it for some reason. Might go back as I've always enjoyed Judge Dredd.

I stopped reading the weeklies long long ago (just collections for me for all comics now) but have picked up Prog 2000.

Good mix of nostalgia and then rounding it off with a new character who seems to fit right in on first impressions.

A lot of one-shot stories too which makes it a nice issue to step into cold instead of trying to jump in midstream with a half dozen stories like most issues of 2000ad.

Yeah, I think the problem I had was that it was confusing to jump in mid story. Plus there were stories I just didn't enjoy. I remember it more from the 80s and 90s. Nemesis, ABC Trading Co (?) and Slaine were some of my favourites.

I don't read a lot of comics as I quite dislike the super hero genre but pick up stuff on comixology now and again. I prefer mystery, drama, slice of life type stuff.

I guess I'm probably more 90s in the era I'm familiar with, Dredd obviously, Sinister Dexter, Durham Red, Nikolai Dante those kinds of strips rather than even iconic stuff like Strontium Dog or ABC Warriors who weren't in it when i read most frequently.

I'm really unfamiliar with any new characters they'll have created in the last 15 or so years but the bits I've read collected seem like the good new stuff is still really fun.

I couldn't keep up with monthlies so weeklies is beyond me now. Maybe if I had the money to get them on the app to my iPad but I'd rather have it collected and read all in one go.

It's remarkable that the format has been so sustainablefor nearly forty yyears now. Dredd must be one of the longest running 'superhero' (in the loosest genre sense) characters who has never been rebooted or significantly reimagined. It's just one continuous canon from Prog 2(?) to 2000.

Yeah, the 2000th issue says that Dredd has been a continuous feature since issue 2. That's pretty impressive. The new story Counterfeit Girl looks promising. I might pick up the next few issues and see where it goes. I like bigger batches of reading too so prefer trade paperbacks but I guess if you can devote the time and money a weekly 2000AD at 2.50ish isn't too bad.

Going to look at the collected Usagi Yojimbo on comixology. Have always been a big fan of it but never managed to follow it over any length of time.

Based on the few pages we got in this issue my only issue with Counterfeit Girl is that she looks like an adolescent version of Domino from X-Force. Otherwise it seems like a cool strip and definitely something in the lineage of maybe a Halo Jones-type character (rather than all violence all of the time) that they can run with.

They've obviously got big plans if she is the future character/continuity strip launching out of what is probably going to be their biggest ever selling issue.

If I could afford to I'd be looking at picking up more stuff like Tank Girl, 2000ad collections (Mazeworld is one I really want to revisit now I'm an older more patient reader), one of the Andre The Giant biographies, that kind of thing. I went through a phase of trying to get back with superhero stuff, X-universe stuff was always my bag with that, but I'm so burned on them from being younger, the Marvel movies and wanting something more creative or unique that it didn't last long. Indie comics in the Daniel Clowes/Drawn & Quarterly sense I think I'm generally over too nowadays.

I'd be up for reading more horror or space opera-y stuff but I wouldn't know where to begin these days so its mostly just nostalgia reading for the moment.

Starting a new Flesh story in Prog 2001 is a very smart move to keep any nostalgia readers buying after 2000.

Anyone recommend me some Vertigo comics? They have a 60% off sale on Comixology. 100 Bullets, American Vampire, The Filth, The Losers, Preacher, Top 10, Transmetropolitan, Trillium? Good choices?

I already have some of Fables and Sweeth Tooth. I'm a huge fan of Grant Morrison and Jeff Lemire. Are Doom Patrol and Animal Man worth getting? The art looks very dated.

I read half a dozen or so volumes of 100 Bullets a few years ago. It had a gangster/gang type vibe going on at the start and some kind of complicated mystery. I found it a little violent for my tastes and I eventually forgot about it and didn't bother collecting the rest.

Preacher is a must; one of Vertigo's most celebrated titles.

I really enjoyed Transmetropolitan, but some people don't like it because it's heavily political. IF you like the writings of Hunter S Thompson, then you'll enjoy it.

100 Bullets starts off very strong, but around half way I thought it started to get boring; there seemed to be lots of pointless filler stories leading up to 100 issues. The artwork is some of the best around, though.

Doom Patrol and Animal Man are considered among Morrison's best work. I've recently read the first omnibus of Doom Patrol and thought it was great, if a little mental. If you're a big fan of Morrison, then those are essential purchases, along with The Filth.

Not read any of the others, but I believe Top 10 is written by Alan Moore, so it's probably worth picking that up for 60% off.

Sandman and Preacher are must buys if you haven't already read them!

    DMZ is brilliant too!

Steve Dillon, artist on Preacher, Punisher, Judge Dredd, and a whole bunch of other iconic comics, has died aged 54 :(

This is shitty news. I've been on a real 2000ad kick recently which has included revisiting a lot of strips that he's drawn. Fabulous.

@senso-ji damn... That's shitty news. The art in Preacher was something else.

Damn, liked some of his stuff very much. Much of his Dredd work was amongst my favourite - along with Bolland and Smith.

Lots of deals for Marvel trades on Kindle/comixology. Recent ones, old ones - over 300 of them at about 75% off.

Also Image Comics have 50% off everything at Comixology, but even better DC have 60% off everything, including Vertigo comics. I just picked up nearly the entire Fables run for less than 100 as a treat to myself (including Jack of Fables). TPBs are coming in at around 3 and the deluxe editions at 5. Preacher must be silly cheap with the sale.

Humble Bundle are currently doing a Valiant comics bundle. Not familiar with the publisher; are they any good? tbh, $15 for a stack of books seems like a good deal, regardless.

LOVE the Valiant titles - well the rebooted ones from the last few years anyway, I never read the original versions in the 1990s.

These are the four launch series you should start with (the other launch series was Shadowman but it's not really worth it):
    X-O Manowar
    Harbinger
    Bloodshot
    Archer & Armstrong

They start to crossover after a while so you'll want to be reading them in the above order i.e. when you start reading Archer & Armstrong issue #1 you should already have read Bloodshot issue #2, Harbinger #3 and X-Manowar #4.

I have a code for a free months access to Marvel Unlimited, if anyone wants it?

I believe you'll have to enter your card details etc, but as long as you cancel before the end of the month, there'll be no auto renewal.

After joining Twitch I've been gifted a comixology code, but it's for Valiant comics (so I have them all already). Anyone want it? Includes volume 1 of Bloodshot and Eternal Warrior.
