Just saw this, it was quite good. Though I'm never going to the cinema with anyone again, my partner spoiled it slightly by asking questions all the way through and trying to guess all the twists.

It was like that episode of the IT crowd where Roy tries to watch that South Korean Zombie movie with Reynholm.

By just saw this, do you mean New New Star Trek (Into Darkness) or just catching up on New Star Trek? The reference to twists suggests it's the properly new one. Glad you enjoyed it :)

I'd kick the living daylights out of the producers of Tipping Point - Ghandi

Star Trek documentary on Channel 5 tonight, 8pm. If it was on Channel 2, 4 or 6 it might have been worth watching, as it is probably an hour of everyone calling Shatner a cuntbubble, I'll watch it anyway.

I just can't handle Simon Pegg as Scotty. He's not Scotty. He's Simon Sodding Pegg, a British comedy actor who is not Scotty. At all. Scotty Fail. SCFAILOTTY.

Please God he doesn't turn up as a bumblingly wisecracking Jedi in Star Wars. PLEASE GOD.

(He fucking will, though, JJ Abrams is bumming him apparently)

EDIT: that's not true. I lied about the bumming.

Just saw Into Darkness. Very enjoyable. It is another action movie, so prepare to be disappointed if you disliked the last one.

I liked it a lot, apart from the occasional cheesey hat-tipping moment.

Star Trek movies *should* be action movies. Biggest problem with First Contact was not enough killings.

There should be two sets of spoiler tags. One for the stupid shit that isnt really a spoiler that people constantly use and then an elevated threat level ruination spoiler for things like that.

Yeah. We have become so desensitised to those silly bloody tags that we look at them automatically, but thats a big one.

@LeoliansBro Yeah I think so. They spent enough time going on tedious soul-searching journeys on the TV show. Needs to be more adventure and hijinks in the movies. And killings.

I thought the first new Star Trek was great, personally. I particularly liked how they 'rebooted' it without pretending the entire TV show and movie series never happened. Good mix. More like that.

I'd rather they just rebooted it without all the cod-timeline bollocks.

Really enjoyed the film, couple of minor quibbles (not really that spoilerific but I'll spoiler tag them anyway) no-one on guard duty of a certain planet until they reached the surface seems really fucking unlikely and the Chekhov's Gun, that was neither a gun nor anything to do with Chekov, was pretty bloody obvious.

I can't be alone in thinking a certain character had their skull crushed from the sound effects either?

There you go, spoilers so vague you'd have to have seen the movie in the first place.

For those who want to know about the 3D conversion, it's not bad, certainly a lot better than the god awful 3D trailer I saw before Iron Man 3, the particle effects are quite nice and it's better than any other conversion I can think of. There's some blatant 3Dness added but it's pretty inoffensive and if you've ever wanted Benedict Cumberbatch to thrust his arm in your face go see it in 3D.

Talking of 3D, the World War Z trailer that was on before STID makes the film look even worse than it does in 2D and it already looked bloody awful.

James Doohan is in no condition to reprise his role.

I'm very very very sorry to let you know this.

So... as the movie is very spoilerable, can we discuss it in this thread, or should we start a new one? I would like to discuss the actuall plot, but I don't like doing so even under spoiler tags until the statute of limitations is up. Too many people look at spoilers as a matter of course and I don't want to ruin anyones fun.

Weak, nonsensical "SCI-FI" story, great summer blockbuster effects, lens flare.

And I haven't even seen it!

Just come back from it. Hmm...I need to absorb and ponder. Overall 6.5/10 and Scotty IS shit. I thought the plot was mostly great but was let down by the execution.

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

I enjoyed it. I'd also say none of the spoilers in this thread would harm watching the film, can pretty much see them coming a mile off. The best part of the film is the execution of it, some good action and decent acting from Cumberbatch and Quinto.

Let down by the execution, but the best part of the film IS the execution...?! Aaaah opinions.....!!

Seeing it on sat night. Excited but definitely adjusting expectations to 'polished Sci Fi blockbuster' rather than 'nerdgasm star trek blowout'. Which is fine.
