I dunno. Old Star Trek had a flavour. It was often unpalatable, or bland, or clunky and embarrassing, but it was definitely Star Trek. Abrams Trek does nothing with that, to the point where it gets lost in the mix and 80% of the trailer footage could have been recycled from Source Code, or Battle Los Angeles, or Battleship.
That pretty much sums the last film up for me. It uses the aesthetic of Trek, but it was distinctly 'un-Trek-like'. I get that it's a reboot, but it seems like they just turned everyone into a stock characters. A real cunt of a stock character in Kirk's case.

I wouldn't expect anything different in the new one then. The first one made a lot of money. In fact the 'un-Trek-like' nature of the film is why a few friends of mine liked it.

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

And guess what. It was more popular than the other Treks. Deal with it!
I'm very much looking forward to this; even knowing the rough outline of what happens.

Pine seems to be overacting a bit in that clip (SHUT__YOUR__MOUTH). I'm not talking Shatner levels of overacting, but still.

This film should do well with a good baddie. Nero was toss is the first one. The whole story fell apart for me because his back story was pap.

Hopefully this one isn't full of plot holes and nonsense, but I think I am dreaming the impossible dream there.

Saw the trailer at Iron Man 3 looks a steaming pile of shallow crap, and massivly over Reliant on SFX

I see what you did there.

Everyone knows Jack Thompson - but how did he become the game-blaming activist he is today? Read Part One of my new mini-series!

A fantasy space drama using SFX, no shit.

I guess they should have sent cameras into space on all those starships we have docked at Heathrow.

    You better watch out.
    You better beware.

Not that I'm cruel or anything but I hope Paramount never permit anything to be made in the prime universe again. For no other reason than to make Craig's sad life into something truly pitiful.

I expect more from Star Trek. After 10 movies, and 29 seasons, I'm more invested.

Are you even invested enough to have watched the last film yet? Just curious, because it really is quite good. If you've watched it and disagree then it's cool :) If you haven't watched it, please do as you're clearly not invested in Star Trek.

I've watched it, a fair few times. And as much as GiantBucket is a knob, his instincts on this are not far wrong.

Ah gayrub has started his random rants. At least if you watched the last film you actually know what your complaining about.

@Khanivor No. But if you insisted in coming into a thread for something you haven't watched and telling everyone how it's shit every so often then probably :-)

Robocop refers to Harrison as 'our top agent' in one of the new trailers, so I was right *pelvic thrust*.

Also, wrt being special effects heavy, its a good job nemesis was a series of exploding space battles and chase sequences or your head may have exploded.

Plus tbf, it is the trailer soon course it's going to be as spectacular as possible. All trailers are.

And yes I fully admit new trek is different to old but it's still good fun. And waaaaaaaay better than nemesis.

Probably just as well as Paramount don't own Star Trek then, CBS are in control rather than the film arm of Viacom.

After watching the 3D trailer, I'm seeing it in 2D, the lens flares were even more obnoxious than normal in 3D.

The 3D trailer in front of iron man was awful, really blurry I thought but the 9 minute preview before the hobbit was great. I'm guessing they don't spend as much time/money converting trailers to 3D which is mental.
