Not having heard the new BoC Lou, I'm pretty surprised to hear a Tortoise comparison. My I suggest you have a look at Music Has The Right To Children for something that really sounds absolutely nothing like Tortoise?

I've listened a bit to the ones you mentioned (well, only what a few online retailers would allow), and they definitely didn't sound like Tortoise on these albums. I guess it's the more analogue sound of the latest BoC album that make them sound similar (as far as the slower titles of TNT are concerned, not that they do any particular fast ones). :)

I definitely want to buy one of the earlier ones of BoC as well, unfortunately the store I went to today only had the latest.

You should definitely give them a try, otto - I know you like Lemon Jelly (and BoC, obivously), so I imagine they could be your cup of tea. Instrumental, mostly slow, often slightly quirky and very melodic stuff with jazz, ambient etc. etc. influences.

Website here, not sure if you can listen to anything on there.

On a sidenote, Tortoise have just recorded an album with Will Oldham (Bonny Prince Billy). An unlikely combination, but who knows Will be released within the next couple of weeks I think.

Standards is my favourite Tortoise album I think. Pretty upbeat and quite original. TNT goes on a bit for me. Fabulous live band.

Geogaddi is the best boards of Canada album. Campfire Headphase is probably the worst, but it is still good.

    happy happy.

Well I never, people disagreeing about music! Next we'll have people arguing over Radiohead albums. Nah...

I really really like the latest BOC, it's my favourite yet. Especially Satellite Anthem Icarus.

    Never even heard of Tortoise.

Ooh good, well thanks for the tip I shall look into it. :)

PS - anyone else keep thinking 'Blue Oyster Cult' when they see 'BOC'? :)

I was hoping you were going to link to that. How does it work? Do you have to enter the ISBN numbers manually?

Yes but does it export to this thing?

Anyway, must get around to scanning my library properly. Problem is it doesn't recognise many of my books, and it's such a pain to enter them manually. Also, about 70% of my books are back in storage in Belgium so I can't scan 'em.

Well I must say having now listened to a couple of their albums a couple of times, I like them, but they have nothing in common with Lemon Jelly or BoC. They do sound a lot like Jaga Jazzist though.

After the revelation of Brian Eno in another thread, I finally bit the bullet and bought Music Has The Right To Children from iTunes for 8 (not bad for 16 tracks).

I'm only on the second track, but it's brilliant. Fascinating, slightly sinister and moving.
