Feel it's worth pointing out that FIFA demos - and you can take this as a good thing or a bad thing - are often not that representative of the final product.

In fact the day one version of the final product isn't all that representative of what it'll become as EA Sports are notorious for patching the game far too often, often changing how it plays in one way or another.

Well, just tried the demo and it's a hot mess. Controlling players feels really loose and floaty and it's as if their kicking a burst football around. Coming from PES18 demo, this feels leagues behind in the gameplay department. I saw quite a few comical incidents with animations and player collisions. Graphics are pretty hideous too.
Staggering that you're criticising animation and graphics having come from PES. That is the definition of an ugly game.

I think FIFA looks wonderful, especially with HDR enabled.

Anyway, cheapest place to pre order FIFA 18?

Fifa may do many thing better than pes in terms of presentation, animation isn't one of them.

What is the point in FIFA demos if it doesn't represent the final game?

I read there wouldn't be one. Which doesn't bode well really.

Will wait for reviews, hoping it is good, FIFA on the go will be great.

So, anybody played this on EA Access yet? Full version trial. Slightly different feel to the demo for me, although can't quite put my finger on it. Online games are a massive change from 17 for me. It's almost basketball-esque in the way it goes from end to end. Forget the slow patient build up play, as it's not present here. I'm not sure if this is a good thing, but it will appeal to the 'Facebook attention span' brigade. Tackling is reigned in from 17, it's harder to time a standing tackle, and sliding tackles don't seem to go as far. Dribbling seems easier, which helps the 'end to end' feel, and shooting feels better, with less trickling shots this year.
I personally think it's a step backward from 17 in gameplay, but it's the first day, so I may get used and end up the opposite. I don't think there's been a Fifa yet that I have instantly bonded with on day one, as you always compare it to the previous version, that after a year of playing, you are obviously more 'used' to.
    Graphically it's spot on,
Hopefully there'll be some patches soon that will help balance things out.

I'll be picking up the Switch version if it reviews well and the views of Switch owners. Otherwise I'll pass again this year.

FIFA's gameplay and animations miss the target once again judging by the demo but the funny thing is I probably wouldn't notice if I didn't have Pro Evo to compare it to.

It's just the defending for me. Everything else is bang on, but ever since FIFA 15 I can't handle the defending.

Yeah, I loved 17, and the demo for this, but it's just relentlessly end-to-end.

I really hope they balance it, there's a good game in there. Shooting and crossing are much better, but they've nerfed tackling and it's just constantly box-to-box.

Having packed neymar last night, I'm in for a good year anyway haha, got both this and pes, and as much as I love both, fifa edges it for me this year, feels like they've genuinely made an effort to sort their shit out. Granted the AI is still patchy at times, but pes goal keepers can sometimes be about as useful as a chocolate teapot.

In complete disagreement. Chocolate teapots are amazing at making chocolate drinks, Pro Evo goalies do a good job, better than ever before :D

The EA access trial is far better than the standard demo. Less floaty, more weight to the players and you can build up play.

Played that opening sequence and it seemed really easy.

I often don't like them at first.

Going to plough through Hunter's story before i do anything else.

Pretty much every preview from E3/Gamescom etc has been in praise of the on-field stuff, and it runs at 1080/60. So what exactly are your concerns?

It’s essentially the same without the wanky single player modes isn’t it?

Exactly. Just wondering where the VERY cut down engine concerns come from.

This version online is a fucking joke. Its impossible to defend and way too easy for people to waltz through and score from seemingly any angle. Every game is a goalfest. Trying to play any type of build up play is nigh on fruitless. Shame as I like the tweaks made to Fifa 18 but its so fucking frustrating to play not to mention complete bollocks when every game contains at least 10 goals.

Switch will probably be a glorified 360/PS3 version.

@vyseofhr the concerns come from it not being the latest two engines they've used on the game (ignite or frostbite) with good reason I may add. I get that it's not as powerful as current HW and wouldn't be able to handle that. They have stated it's a whole new engine for the switch. That's the thing that concerns me. The first iteration is always somewhat interesting. It won't be the same as the current crop and will no doubt be different. In a good way? That's yet to be seen for sure but I'm just being cautious in what to expect.

I sold my PS4 as I was only ever really playing FIFA and bought a switch. Best thing I've done in a long time. But I do hope they do this justice as if they do I will sink a lot of time into it. I'm just mindful of how EA are with first iterations of engines and how it will play.

    Time will tell I guess.

Interesting. Just wondered where the concerns came from given the pretty much universal praise for how it runs in all the previews.

Another minute or so of footage here. I think the animation for the most part looks great - only thing that looks slightly janky to me is the cutscenes.

The thing I’m interested to see is whether all the Premier League/La Liga overlays etc have made it into the Switch version.
