    Its hard to believe but I actually wasn't being sarcastic about Farm Simulator! It's the farming equivalent of Euro Truck Simulator. It's oddly compelling even though it has no right to be.

    I think I'm sold on that Cat RPG thing which I think is out tomorrow. I will update if I get chance to play it so you lot don't have to waste your money if it's awful.

    @Bichii South Africa seems to have the best combination of prices and ease of purchase. I use a Monzo international top-up money card which allows you to purchase at the Mastercard wholesale rate.

    As an example, I bought Golf Story there for 195 rand, which converted to £10.53 (£13.49 on UK store).

    Other sites like Mexico require a card to be registered there which is a bit too much of a pain in the arse, which is mega-annoying because Stardew Valley goes for £6 grrrrr.

    Anyway, I would say if you can use a card that doesn't charge a conversion fee like Monzo it's a no brainer.

    I'm with you on saving money, but stardew valley in particular is worth paying the full UK price for IMO.

    The devs have been pretty good about not having a nintendo tax and matching their steam prices compared to a lot of other money grabbers.

    Plus its fucking awesome. Close to my GOTY. Fuck that Zelda shit

    Doom is reviewing surprisingly well. 81 average score from the usual mix of well and lesser known sites.

    Speaking of Stardew Valley - is it actually a genuinely good game, or just one of those "I can't believe I just spent two hours on this" type repetitive grinding experiences?

    (I know TH14 just said it's his GOTY, but still :p)

    @Kay
    It's a genuinely good game, for real.

    @rice_sandwich Hey! I'm trying not to buy Doom here!

    Doom sounds good, but too expensive, seeing how I have finished it. The novelty factor isn't worth paying full price for me.

    Bit strange though, some reviews say handheld looks better, other say docked is noticably better. Can't both be true.

    @DangerousDave_87

    Seems a bit pricey unless you're a massive fan. Pinball FX is out in a few days. I reckon you'd be better to buy a few tables for it instead.

    Although I can't talk as I've bought four or five Switch games in the past month.

    It is a good game - BUT - lets not pretend its something that its not, it scratches those parts of your brain that work by filling bars.

    i often get to the end of a 1-2hr play session and think wtf am i doing this is utterly pointless

    edit : Re stardew valley

    To be fair you could say the same of almost any video game. The important thing about Stardew Valley is the sense of relaxation that it brings.

    Stardew Valley didn't really feel like that to me, I saw it more as a slow-paced "city" builder like, say, the Anno games. It's just nice to turn the "jungle" you inherit into something productive.

    It is super relaxing though! Picked it up after a week or so playing odyssey. It just nice to keep working away at little things. The presentation of it is too charming as well.

    @rice_sandwich Really looking forward to Pinball FX. Do you get a free table or is it just trials of all tables again?

    As for Stardew Valley, it's only as much a grind as you make it. If you're chasing money it'll feel like a chore. If you play it for escapism and relaxation, it's actually really good.

    Supposed to be getting a review code for Pinball. God knows how that's going to work though, isn't the first one free anyways or something?

    @brigadier

    The Sorceror's Lair table is free. Most of the rest seems to be bundles of tables. So you might get a couple of codes for table bundles.

    You missed a big one - Hulu is out too.

    Doesn't mean that much directly, but it does mean perhaps the floodgates are about to open and we'll finally have a fully functional tablet device with netflix, browser, emails etc

    ;-)

    I'm tempted to get Doom on cartridge, rinse it and then trade it in for Skyrim. Probably a waste, but I just wanna see what it's like.

    @neems That's not a bad plan. £38 on Amazon if you're a Prime member.

    @Addy_B I didn't notice your response (was hiding at work). Sorcerer's Lair is alright. It's no Excalibur, though! I'm also annoyed that, yet again, El Dorado is bundled in with V12 Shaman and Tesla. El Dorado is excellent. The other 3 are pretty guff.

    I don't mind shaman once you get in a groove. I agree about the others though.
