    Ha, I'm just the same. I've been scouring the net for a good deal on a new 3DS XL but to no avail. For some reason they seem to be quite scarce. Even amazon doesn't have stock at the moment.

    Probably for the best though, seeing as the missus is about to go into labour at any moment. Don't think it'd go down too well if the real bundle of joy in my life was a 3DS.

    I've been buying lucky eggs through taking down gyms. Every 21 hours, you can "claim" your gym rewards. Each gym reward gives you 10 Pokecoins. On my walk home, I can take about 3-4 gyms en route, so that's 40 Pokecoins a day. Two days = 1 lucky egg, by which point my eggs are good to hatch.

    It's not even that much of a detour to the gyms to be honest, but I'm quite lucky in that respect.

    And I've not spent any money on the game yet.

    I signed up for this a couple of days ago, and I'm just ambling around, not really knowing what I'm doing.
    Just joined Team Yellow, and apparently I can't pick any more stuff up as my bag is full.
    I've figured out incubating eggs, but that's about it.

    Can someone give me an idiot's guide to Gym's? If I wander in with a bunch of low-level 'mons, will I be able to train them up, or will I end up fighting stronger monsters and getting mine all killed?

    Also, is there any reason why you wouldn't want to evolve something? Mine are all still in starter form, and I've no idea if there are subtle tactics involved, or whether it's just 'make 'em all bigger!'

    Cheers!

    What's this "hatching" of lucky eggs you refer to? Lucky eggs increase your XP gain x2

    @boo

    So from what I've worked out, the only reason to evolve at lower levels is for the XP, the pokemon you end up with post-evolution is still shite.

    The more XP you have, the higher level pokemon you find

    Everything you find at lower levels is useless as far as I can tell.

    In fact assuming there is no level cap, then I guess everything you ever find is useless.

    @brokenkey I'm using a lucky egg just before my actual eggs are due to hatch, to double the EXP I get from them. 5K eggs are great for this, as the two days it takes to hatch with just my normal walking routine and shitty GPS tracking means I can earn a lucky egg by the time it comes around to hatching my actual eggs.

    @Rivuzu

    Where do you click to claim the coins?

    I did conquer a gym but it was a case of me chucking 6 low level Pokemon at 1 higher level. So I do not think I held it very long. (Therefore might not have earned any coins).

    I have also added Pokemon to existing gyms.

    @PazJohnMitch When you hold a gym, go to the Shop and there's a shield icon in the top right. It's your "defender" bonus for holding a Pokémon in a gym.

    Per Pokémon nets you 500 Stardust and 10 Coins.

    And you can only claim once ever 22 hours, so don't plant on a gym, then claim, if you plan to plant on another gym shortly after.

    21 Hours :p And indeed. That's why on my walk home, I need to hit all four within 20 minutes else I know some bastard is going to come along and rob me!

    On the other hand, you'll need something to do if labour takes a while.

    So, Openreach engineer just turned up playing Pokemon Go - He gave me a tip for egg incubating. Put phone on record player (he called it a DJ turntable, but WHATEVER!), set to low speed and it will mimic walking.

    Not the healthiest advice, and the weather is gorgeous, but handy nonetheless.

    Bollocks advice, because it's GPS tracking and not pedometer.

    What if it was a REALLY BIG turntable then?

    Large Hadron Collider?

    Well that's told me - fecking BT giving me the runaround AGAIN :)

    ...and yes, could be a massive turntable, I guess.

    Ok, so anybody know when the gyms will be fixed? Being unable to cause any damage to an almost ko'd enemy is not fun. I now won't be taking part in any battles until it's resolved as its a complete waste of potions.

    Looks like the turntable trick will work but it is really, really slow Handy at night if you need a fix, I guess.

    All to do with 'GPS Drift', apparently, which sounds like a Vin Diesel movie.

    If I have my phone in my pocket with the screen off will it still track my movement? Or does it need to be actively running?

    My first 10k egg hatched into a Dratini. I don't know how rare that is, but it's the first one I've got. Next one in 400m!

    Also, it seems like everyone has Vaporeons, I thought they were meant to be uber rare? :(

    Vaporeons in the wild are, but Eevee's are only rare. Costs 25 candies to evolve an Eevee.

    Oh that's a bug? I thought it was just lag, good to know though. I have a bug where every Pokemon nearby is shown as 3 footprints away, it never changes. Can't really go looking for specific ones until they fix this.

    @THFourteen haha many...

    Started tuesday evening last week. Have played most days since walking dogs in morning and evening. Easier to tell you how many km i've clocked up. I think it is coming up for 40. Am level 17.

    My advice is to not use stardust for really. Better to use it just before evolving when using a lucky egg. Only start the egg though when about to complete some incubation. Today i went from 15k/20k lv 16 to 11k/20k lv 17 in the space of a few hours 9k of which was 10 mins of a lucky egg.

    Been quite fortunate with timings really. Yesterday i was leading a school trip to rochester and today the maritime museum in greenwich. Got to completely drain my battery both days playing whilst at work!

    Been mucking about with this since yesterday.

    What is the deal with when you try to capture a pokemon - you get the little bugger but then your ball just sits there like a dumb shit doing nothing - have to close an re-open. It also results in the loss of any balls used in the encounter.
