@basmans_grob A lot of people stopped on pubg while waiting for better security against hacks, I've dabled on the xbox version more due to seeing 2 in a row on pc.

@robthehermit Well I'll be up for some games around launch, if it has some (sea) legs then I'll definitely look to grab it or continue the GP sub.

I know I've bought other games with the intention of co-oping them only to find it drops out of favour pretty quickly and finding regular games is tough, or regular games with the same group at least. I give up on those games pretty quickly as generally they are a little less fun solo (cough, Wildlands, cough. Pre-PVP that is).

@Graxlar_v3 it’s all good mate, I was a lurker for a long time, always reading the threads but never really taking part. Trying to change that this year, so you should see me around a lot more and the post count grow.

I hope you’re right, it looks lovely and should be able to grow into something very nice indeed. I imagine the game pass will help it to sustain a good concurrent base in the mid-term!

@blimeyguvnor87 it will live or die by its griefers to be honest. But hey, my gamer tag is graxlar. Add me as a friend if oh want and if you have no one to play sea of thieves with I will happily hop on.

I'll likely join up on release (that is assuming I still have play time post baby birth). Looks to be my first purchase of the year. For the co-op.

I kept getting the "Too Early" message all weekend, so I missed most of the beta test.

I finally got given a 5x5 code from the Rare devs that I could only redeem after I cancelled my pre-order. I was playing solo for a bit last night, and will be on again in a few mins. The beta was extended until tomorrow morning at 8am GMT I understand.

I like it so far, and will be picking this up at launch time.

@Technoishmatt I found the first 5-6 months was fairly easy to fit gaming time in, especially if you don't need much sleep then night feeds are your friend! It's as they get older time seems harder to find! So you should be fine*

Same here, it's getting harder as he gets older. Now he's at nursery after bed we need to get everything sorted for the next day so it's 8:30/9 until we are free. Bloody kids.

The first six months were easier especially if the mum is breastfeeding the mite as there isn't a lot for you to actually do!

Cool beans. I might be less worried that I have specific things to do, but that me gaming might be less appreciated by the other half! :) wife is taking pretty much taking a full year off though.

Yeah, last year i managed to get through nioh, persona and legend of zelda by taking the 1/2am night feed and just staying up rather that going to sleep for 2 hours.

Trying not to look at datamined stuff is tricky...

...did it anyway. Each update for Pioneers (ultra hardcore beta testers) is pushed to anyone with the client still installed, Pioneers or not. Seems like lots of bits and pieces keep being added, albeit building on the same core structures we already know and/or suspect: three companies, a big sea beastie, various animals and enemies of some kind, events, loads of player/ship customisation, more NPCs, more effects and items, and so on.

    Hints of Open Beta...

You have to be subbed already to get that offer, right? Do you know if the trial counts?

Some of the preview info has really piqued my interest.
I'm assuming that to maximise the enjoyment you're going to need a reliable and regular crew to pirate with.

    Frankly, yes.

That said you can solo in the downtimes, and duo is viable and immediately more fun (for me).

Alpha/Beta random matchmaking was also 90% of the time really positive. It's a game that asks you to row back on current online behaviour: talk out of parties, throw yourself into the world a bit, don't expect the game to protect you from others, etc. It's a risk in many ways, but the randomer co-op can be a lot of fun.

I have had bad times: people being extremely cynical about stuff and therefore not playing in spirit, but that's always going to happen, and I've heard others have had trouble with the Brig, and everyone has a tale to tell of being assaulted by an overzealous enemy crew who seek to spawn camp, requiring a swift Scuttle. But by and large it's fun with strangers, and triply so with friends.

And obviously, if someone's being a goon, you can all vote to lock Grax... I mean, people in the brig.

That's pretty much exactly as expected. I'm super interested - it's just finding a reliable crew to wreak havoc upon the high seas.

Being an hour ahead of you lot can be a pain in the arse.

Any more news on an open beta yet? I'm actually keen to try it especially after all the recent articles. An open beta would help me decide before taking the plunge (something something water pun :))

I still feel there's a piece of the jigsaw missing for this to be the best game it can be. The actual meat and potatoes (the quests) have so far proved to not be very exciting. I don't see hidden depth in the mechanics, I'm going to get it and see how it all fits together but i still think it will have serious longevity issues once the charm wears out.
It looks lovely but there's not as much personality to the world either for me as none of the npcs talk (from what I've seen). It does create a bit of a disconnect with the world and is the sort of garnish that rare of old used to be perfect at. Here's hoping it's just placeholder as it would make a big difference.

I really think the point of the game is not the quests themselves, but what the quests engender. The meat and potatoes is not so much 'complete quest X, get reward Y', it's 'start quest X, find thing Z, fight pirates D and E, avoid storm, get reward W, complete quest, get reward Y'.

    I reckon anyway.

You could say that about any game with quests.

@Blurp True but some games really excel at it. Skyrim for example, was rare to complete a quest in a linear fashion, always got sidetracked and ended up doing something else. Essential when quests boil down to "Kill this" and "collect that."
