    260 gold coins = £2.60 off a future purchase

Or have I had a stroke?

@ghearoid You’re right, 1 gold coin = 1p for Switch. The news is up on My Nintendo: https://my.nintendo.com/news/3b6f1b22f4f656fe

No. As an example 90 gold coins will get you 30% off kid Icarus on 3DS so you get it at £20.99 instead of £30. So 90 coins is £9 of discount. All the offers seem to value the coins at around 10p.

Or am I having a stroke?

Edit: So seen that link. That clearly wasn't what was happening on the other consoles. But it also does not correspond to the rewards page.

    https://my.nintendo.com/missions

A nintendo e-shop purchase here for 40-49.99 nets you 70 gold coins.

I think the 1 Coin = 1p is an option they're giving so you can get a discount on anything. That's different to the money off things they do now, which I imagine they'll still do for some games and will lead to larger discounts on those specific games.

this is from the nintendo website:

How do I use Gold Points?

You can spend your Gold Points on Nintendo eShop or the Nintendo website when you purchase games or other contents for Nintendo Switch.

    1 Gold Point = 1p (GBP)
How do I earn Gold Points?

Gold Points are earned with every new game you purchase. How many you get depends on whether you purchased a game digitally, or have it on a game card.

You can earn Gold Points worth the following percentage of the price on Nintendo eShop:

    Downloads: 5%

Nintendo Switch games and DLC on Nintendo eShop: 5% of the total paid amount
Nintendo 3DS games and Wii U games on Nintendo eShop: 5% of the total paid amount
Download codes: 5% of the undiscounted Nintendo eShop price of the same content
    Game Cards: 1%

Nintendo Switch game: 1% of the undiscounted Nintendo eShop price of that game
    For example...
If you pay £40 for a game on Nintendo eShop, you’ll receive 200 Gold Points.
Next time, you’ll be able to use those points and save £2.

Gold Points are valid for 12 months from when they are earned, and always expire at the end of a month.

So 1 gold coin is 1p, but you get more gold coins if you buy digital. So a £40 physical copy of say, zelda, will earn you 40 p , If you buy it digitally you will get £2.00 worth of coins.

The only smelly thing about it is that it seems that our currents aren't upgraded, but you win some, you lose some.

Hopefully they do some decent discounts and offers on stuff you buy with coins then. Not just that 1p is 1 coin shite.

    Anyone played The Sexy Brutale?

I’m still living off eShop credit recieved over Christmas at the moment, and it looks right up my street. I see that the Switch version seems to be a bit of a mess at the moment, but that they’re working on sorting out the resolution and frame-rate. Is the game itself worth frittering away one of my 10 2018 slots on?
The switch port is bad and I regret buying it. There’s also not much to it. A big case of style over substance.

What's the current thinking with Golf Story? Tempted to pick it up in the sale but I seem to remember some mixed reviews when it came out.

Didn't EG call it Essential? Which going by Monster Hunter (just not feeling it) and Horizon Zero (loved it), means I'll lose interest after the second mission.

My Switch is next door and I can't be bothered to go get it. What price is it in the sale and what else is on offer, anything?

It's around a tenner. Only a few quid off but it all helps.

Quite a few things on offer this week:

    The Darkside Detective

A new retro-styled point and click adventure game told in six short episodes, each one focusing on a different case. You solve mysteries of the paranormal kind and it's all round pretty enjoyable with lots of humour and a great soundtrack. Gameplay is more on the simple side of things but it's not a bad way to spend an afternoon or two at the weekend.

Still can't figure out why they didn't just stick an HDMI port on the switch itself. Wonder if it's possible to make a dongle or splitter for the USB-C port?

Slightly old news, but the Tinybuild developers have confirmed 6 games they're porting to Switch. The most well known of these is apparently Hello Neighbour, which looks like something that would be popular with Youtubers. There's also the very weird looking Cluster Truck, Streets of Rogue, The Final Station, Punch Club and Party Hard (which I think Eurogamer covered a few years back).

Nothing here to make me break my 10-Game challenge, but I think I may be twisted enough to give Party Hard and The Final Station a go at some point.

Anyway to swap save files between User profiles on the Switch?

I haven't heard of such a thing. Although you can transfer save data between consoles, it's the individual games that determine how save data works with individual profiles. Pretty much all Switch games have opted to restrict save data to individual profiles.

Simple questions, which I'm sure have been asked before.

    My switch arrives tomorrow.
Should I be worried about screen scratches? What, if needed, are the ways to avoid them? Is a sock a good idea. Or will a screen protector be the easiest solution?

    Be worried.

    Buy a screen protector.

The Orzly one is popular around these parts.

The dock itself can scuff the screen so yes a screen protector and not a sock (?) is a good idea.

I do have a screen protector. The Orzly one, which is great. However, I didn't scratch the screen once in the 4 months I didn't use it.

I thought only the careless would scratch the screen so I carefully inserted (wahey!) into the dock everytime.

Still managed to scratch it. I now have a cloth hanging over the front of the dock and the console fits nicely.

So screen protector. Yeah, I would.

No screen protector here. Mine is fine.

Even though I'm nowhere near done with Xenoblade 2, the demo of DQ Builders made me buy the full game. It's great, really enjoying it, and I am not a fan of Minecraft.

@Singularity Don't say that. I'm tempted by DQ Builders and I don't want to be.

    @GuybrushThreepwood

Tried the demo? It had the opposite effect on me, after hacking away endlessly to get raw material for an hour I thought there was no way I could be fucked with it.

@THFourteen Hm, thought the demo was pretty straightforward - there wasn't any grinding necessary to finish it, was there?

    @UncleLou

It’s not necessary no, but just walking around the overworld you get this overwhelming urge to collect as much material as you can, at which point it’s really just becoming a time sink.

@THFourteen thanks. I've got the demo and will look at it after xc2... In about 6 months :)

The demo is only meant to be the opening 20 minutes. You really don't need to be gathering resources like that. Especially if it's just dirt and sticks!

Yeah, I played the DQB demo for a good hour and never felt the urge to grind materials. It's... it's a demo. Why would you horde mats for... a demo? THFOURTEEN BE CRAZY!

It didn't really float my boat though. I've never played any of the DQ games, so had no affinity to anything in there, and I'm not big on Minecraft particularly. I think if I hadn't had to wade through about 4000 dialogue boxes I'd have felt more positive about the whole thing.

The dialogue boxes disappear pretty fast. You end up only getting a couple per mission, and the characters are so full of, well, character that you really don't mind.
