    New episode?

I'd have liked the story to have a proper ending, but series 7 & 8 were dogshit, and it doesn't sound like Rob Grant is involved, which means it's going to be stupid and painfully unfunny. Doesn't help that the cast are all looking so old now.

I loved 7 & 8 so I couldn't give a toss if Rob Grant is there or not. I love every single series as much as each other.

Were you on drugs while you watched them?

No, I was perfectly sober :p

I watched every series of Red Dwarf back to back over a month recently and I'd say there isn't a bad series in there at all.

It stared going downhill in season 6 where they re-used the same couple of jokes in every eipsode but the rest of the writing covered up for it.
  • Deleted user 27 August 2008 09:56:10
I'm still a big fan of season 6 though - I quite liked the fact that they were going for a slightly different style of comedy. At least they were funny while they were doing it.
  • Deleted user 27 August 2008 09:57:52
Oh I still love season six but you can just tell that some of the spark is going. Both my favourite scenes of the whole gig are in season six :)

As a matter of excuse: I've just been sorting out all my media stuff recently which has required typing out 'Season X' into many new folders*. So there.

    * don't worry, all British TV shows are devided into Series**

    Yaaaas! A new episode!

Can't wait.. hopefully ten year absence has given the team plenty of new ideas.
I thought Series 7 was the weakest with season 8 a slight return to form.

There's an Official Robert Llewellyn Forum?

Hmmm. The only way a new Red Dwarf could be any good was if it completed the arc that was started in series 1-3. 7&8 pissed that all away and was unfunny and all so as much I love Red Dwarf, all I can think is "Meh."

    It's an utterly brilliant comedy.

I do like the repeats on Dave, I've even caught some I've never seen before.

Although I enjoyed series 7 & 8, I didn't find them funny as much, I just liked the story. Plus I really like Chloe Annett. I don't know what it is about her, but if she told me to jump off a bridge I probably would. Might regret it as my shins smack into my chin though.

Good news on the new episode though :)

I'd kick the living daylights out of the producers of Tipping Point - Ghandi

7 and 8 were absolute toilet. HATED what they did to the characters. Cringed every time Kryten started that whining and blubbering like he was doing a bad impression of Laurel & Hardy, and Cat went from being an adorably dimwitted feline to a total retard.

And the 'twist' of bringing back the Dwarf was just a bad idea. One of the fundamental ideas behind Red Dwarf was these total losers and slackers were the last humans (ish) left alive, and they were stuck aboard this ship driving each other crazy. Then Red Dwarf comes back and you've suddenly got this huge cast of characters, few of who were at all interesting. And the new Kochanski was just fucking awful from the start. Clare Grogan is Kochanski as far as I'm concerned (love that accent), and it worked when she just appeared in flashbacks and so on. She was this elusive, impossible dream for Lister (only any use if you wanted something to grit the path), but then she's around all the time and turns out to be really fucking annoying. Why would he have spent years pining after this irritating cow?

The show was in decline in series 6, after Rob Grant left it was a disaster. You only need to read Grant and Naylor's respective Red Dwarf books to realise who had the talent in that partnership.

Same here, it's hard to get excited about a new episode after the disappointment of series 7 & 8 :(

This is such a bad idea. The last two series were pretty poor, and it hit rock bottom with the T-Rex.

Series 6 was brilliant though. Gunmen of the Apocalypse is one of the best episodes ever.

While I like those two series I can see your points there and understand why you dislike them.

Clare Grogan though? Come on! She was always shite!

Didn't matter. She was cute, and Lister was besotted with her despite never having a proper conversation. That was why he had Rimmer and not Kochanski, because he'd spent more time with Rimmer. I don't think she was ever supposed to be a proper character, it was better when she was just this imaginary ideal woman.

Anyone who hasn't read them yet really needs to get hold of the Red Dwarf books. The first two - Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers and Better Than Life - are fantastic. Very similar in style and tone to Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, and just as good in their own way.

I'd rather they just left the series as it is. Series 7 and 8 were dire (although ironically I really enjoyed series 7, episode 2 - 'Stoke me a Clipper'), particularly after the magnificence of series 6.

I also (and I'm probably in the minority) thought series 1 & 2, possibly 3 as well, were a bit rubbish. I think the writing wasn't so great and they did look a bit low-budget and nasty. Series 4, 5 and 6 were utterly excellent though.

Was 3 any good? I've thought about getting it on DVD but can't honestly remember any of the episodes; only that I recall it was a bit naff.

Gunmen of the Apocalypse is probably my favourite episode overall, though. Or the last episode of series 6 (can't recall the name); would have been a perfect end to the programme.

Ditto. Hated the last couple of series. Too much Kochanski "showing the boys how it's done", too much unfunny crap aboard the Red Dwarf. WAY too much Kryten.
