Did we have a thread for this already?

    Steam

It's still in alpha. Can I say it's Minecraft with DayZ? I've literally just logged in and starved to death in the dark but I think it'll probably be pretty cool.

    Heh.

They had to censor it because Valve objected to the fact that people were flooding steam with pictures of 3d rendered caveman penises :D

    :D Trousers, yeah.

I've had a chance to play a bit more. The spawn rates for some resources (notably stone) seem way too low compared to server populations. Half the chat is filled with people asking "Where can I find stone?"

    Is it worth a punt?

@Jetset_UK For the time being I'd have to say no. Resources are super rare, so if you get unlucky you'll end up running around for hours without any progress. I've given up until there's a new patch to fix the resource spawning.

I'm having more fun with this than any game I played last year, it's amazing, especially with friends.

If you go on a high pop server of course resources will be limited, but if you're on a server with under 20 people for your first session there will be plenty of resources to get started.

A few tips if you do get it, and I recommend you do is build your house away from populated areas, by the sea in the mountains is best so your house is not an easy target for raiders.

Make a sleeping bag ASAP as it acts a spawn point, and try to make friends within the game for protection.

I am thinking about buying a server so I will post the IP if I do!

Is there a single player mode? Got bored of playing with randoms a decade ago.

Not at the moment as it's still in alpha.

You don't have to play with others, you can play by yourself on a PvE server so other people can't kill you but they can still raid your house.

Although some servers have a rule against that but it is difficult to enforce as currently there are no server logs.

Right I've got a 50 slot server now.

It's PvP (Will change to PvE if enough request it), Instant craft, no sleepers (Body won't be left in game when logged out) and air drops at 4 players for the time being.

Type in console (F1) "net.connect 88.150.159.130:28715" to join.

I'll come and join you then, speed182. :)

Edit: Yeah, now there's resources around. I'd previously just tried the official servers that were at full pop and frankly didn't have a very good time looking for stuff.

See you on there at some point then!

Yeah, I personally think 50 people is the max for the size of the map, it's really not that big once you know how to navigate it.

Plus like you said anymore and the resources become rare and it ends up in a kill fest everywhere you go.

I like lower pop server where you have that eeri feeling of not knowing who's watching you. Rather than actually knowing there's probably 20 people near you.

Servers either down or very laggy atm, I've contacted Multiplay to sort it out as I can't even restart it.

    EDIT: All sorted now.

Had a friend gushing about this to me the other day, gave it a go this afternoon... it's just Minecraft with fancy graphics and a cuntish player base?

Doesn't escape the label of lazy Minecraft cash in in my mind I'm afraid.

How can you call it lazy when it's still in Alpha?

It shows you really gave the game a chance...

Food isn't hard to get at all and if you find "everyone" a twat why not join a PvE server? Or a low pop PvP as mentioned earlier in this thread.

Yeah, playing on the official servers seems to be just misery. Smaller servers are much more enjoyable as there's actually stuff you can do.

It is still pretty incomplete though, imo. Tech progression is far too quick: you need to just bang a couple of rocks and you can already build guns. If you get lucky and get the right blueprint from a zombie drop you can make an assault rifle in fifteen minutes. I've put in maybe 10 hours on speed's server and I think I've got pretty much all the tech except what can only be got from airdrops.

I think once they level out the difficulty curve a bit, it'll be cool.

I got that I came on with a mate and I gave up after not even being able to find him.

Looks like it could be interesting, but at the minute looks like it needs a lot of time invested to do stuff, a map or locate friends ability would solve in 1 min.

@DamoVotf Yeah, it can be annoying not being able to find a friend. But I teleport players to friends until they set down their Sleeping Bag.

I don't think people understand that some of their issues are mechanics of games like this.

There's no map for a reason; I would imagine there is only one world layout, and that as such everything is always in the same place. So, the idea is, get used to the game, get used to the layout, know where to head for stuff.

They can't allow pinging for friends because that's tantamount to encouraging "stream snipers" (people who look for Twitch streams on their server so they can go find and kill that person) and vendettas. It's far too abusable, frankly. You'd only be able to have either system in PvE because of this, and even then people will find a way to troll.

I recommend anyone interested in the game goes and listens to the latest Rebel FM to hear what people get up to, maybe watch some streams of good players, before even thinking of putting money down. It's very much not for everyone, and you need to know what you're in for before going for it.

What's this like at the moment? Been watching a few vids and it looks hilarious especially the crap animations.

I put this in the same category as DayZ; I have much more fun watching online videos (such as FrankieOnPC) than I do trying to play it myself!
It looks so much fun in the videos but my adventures are complete and utter failures and just frustrating.

Yeah, I get the feeling that the videos are or fun than the actual game. I imagine it being the case of KOS no matter how geared you are.

Im a bit bored of it now, barring an ultra competitive server its a bit narrow. Its a good laugh getting a base up and running and getting the items, but there isnt a huge amount to do later on (yet).

Sounds fascinating, but also about as enjoyable as a root canal really. One game I've got zero intention of buying before it's much, much more complete, whereas I have a few other alpha games that I've enjoyed playing while they grow.

Any Netflix library in the world for a couple of quid a month? Gimme!

Yeah, I'm waiting for more updates to roll until I give it another go. You can get end-tier items a bit too easy now.
