Assuming you'd have enough pads and/or a multitap, for local multiplayer shenanigans I'd recommend Mashed: Fully Loaded. It's brilliant fun that captures the simple pleasures of gaming really well.

Not sure I'd go for Fahrenheit though. I recently played the Xbox version and found it pretty meh. Some interesting ideas, but to me it was neither a good game nor was it a good film and it seemed to have a chunk missing before the final chapters. I wouldn't say don't go for it, but I'd look it up first to see if you think it would appeal.

    @Futaba Thanks!

From those you mentioned, I've already played Shadow of the Colossus, ICO, FFX, both the God of War games and both MGS games.

Isn't DMC1 too outdated for today's standards? I love hack n slash games, but DMC1 might be too simple nowadays, or do I have the wrong idea?

Regarding the others, Disgaea also has my attention. Heard a lot of it back in the day.

Ó mar salgado, quanto do teu sal
    São lágrimas de Portugal!
Por te cruzarmos, quantas mães choraram,
    Quantos filhos em vão rezaram!
    Quantas noivas ficaram por casar
Para que fosses nosso, ó mar!

I replayed the original DMC on an emulator recently, I found it to be pretty good fun despite the age. That said I don't really play many (any) hack n' slash games so if you've been spoilt by better releases in that genre since it came out you might not find it bearable.

    @Radamel

Have you ever played FF Tactics or Tactics advance? Disagea is like that, but on crack :) The story is good (plus well-humoured), the gameplay is fun and the characters are likeable, it's definitely worth a try if you like games of the the tactics ilk. Disgaea 2 is good too but I preferred the first.

DMC1 is a little slow in places compared to newer hack'n'slash games but it's still fun and holds up now imo. Some epic bosses in that game (DMC3 is better though, yeah).

Edit: I was going to put Deus Ex on my list too, but that would be better to play on PC.

@Futaba Never played a tactical RPG, but it could be my very first! Looks interesting! :D

I'm sure DMC1 is pretty cheap everywhere, some euros spent to try it wouldn't hurt and it's surely a great addiction to anyone's collection. I will definitely buy it!

@Fatiguez Bayonetta and the first Ninja Gaiden game might be two of the best games I've played in the last 10 years. My main concert regarding the first DMC is with it's combo complexity. I'm afraid it's more near simpler slasher games such as Darksiders or even Zelda rather than a pure hack n slash with endless combos like Bayonetta.

Well in DMC you get extra points for doing longer and variant combos, so there is some room for being creative with them, but yeah it's not on a Bayonetta level. DMC3 is closer to that though, it had a little overhaul for that game to improve on it. If you consider yourself adept in these types of games, try one of the harder difficulty levels, they're insanely tough :)

Personally, Ninja Gaiden Black is my favourite game of that genre, though DMC3 and Bayonetta do come close.

As far back as I can remember I always wanted to be a ninja.

Seems totally worthy of a couple of euros. Cheers!

@Radamel frequency and amplitude may not play great on a HDTV as you can't calibrate lag. Though it may be fine on your setup.

I would also look up the following:

    The Maximo games
    Yakuza 1 and 2
    Mark of kri
    Primal
    SOS the final escape
    Gregory horror show
    WRC 4

@melv I'm playing the PS2 on an SDTV, the one I have my Wii connected to. It's surely the best way to look at them.

Never really got into Yakuza. Played the Yakuza 3 demo and absolutely hated it, don't know why.

Btw, currently playing FFXII. It looks incredible!

@Radamel That's good, you should definitely look at frequency and amplitude then if you like those kind of games.

Only just read the thread in its entirety and you know what?

... the PlayStation 2 must be the best console ever, even though I was a silly Nintendo fan during those days as I owned a GameCube and flat out refused to play any other consoles.

    Yes, I was that bad.

Aside from Killer 7, Resident Evil 4 and Viewtiful Joe being better on the GameCube, the rest of the lists I have glanced upon are brilliant with an INCREDIBLE amount of variety too!

Wish I had one of these sitting besides my GameCube back in the day.

Yeah, I was happy to be on the correct side of the battlefront during the PS2/Xbox/GC era.
Does anyone remember the PS2 launch and the craziness surrounding it?
They do not make launches that good these days.

I wonder as a person who only played Shadow of the Colossus if I would enjoy ICO? Never got to play that, always wanted.
SoTC was awesome, although I had to look up strategies on some bosses.

I remember having reams of forms to fill in to ensure I got one at release from Game. My launch game was Fantavision, didn't want any of the other launch titles. :-s
