Couldn't see a thread for this so thought I'd get one started.

    Taken from the Wiki:

    What is WildStar?
WildStar is an MMORPG set in a science-fiction / fantasy universe, taking place on a newly discovered planet called Nexus. The player will choose their faction between Dominion or Exile and learn about the planets former inhabitants, the Eldan, who have mysteriously vanished from the planet over one thousand years ago. Although the Eldan have vanished, whatever caused them to disappear still lingers on the planet.

The game was announced in 2011 by the developing company, Carbine Studios.

I just can't get excited for MMORPGs. It shows that fun looking gameplay, but it'll take between 20-50 hours to get to it. I've got other games to spend that time on.

I've been following this game for months. Looks really, really promising and the developers are really good at taking on board feedback. I love how you can choose your own gameplay style and effectively play the sort of game you want instead of being forced into the traditional MMO route.

Yea I'll be trying it out, it looks like it might be fun.

I quite like the look of this. I have to say it being holy trinity, but flexible and with aiming and stuff, is my cup of tea. I thought GW2 suffered because everyone just goes DPS :( I am older-school, I fear.

Tried the beta earlier in the year and came across totally unimpressed. It was typical tab targeting and avoiding marks on the floor. Since then I have read they have overhauled pretty much everything, and so am slightly hyped again.

I had a bash at the stress tests and I liked it a lot. Great art direction, interesting world. I may give it a go if it comes out in Winter.

    @RedSparrows

Funny you say about the Holy Trinity i was thinking about that just today. How while GW2 is technically a good game i personally struggled to find direction due to a lack of the trinity. To me Wildstar looks very much in the mould that so many MMOs have fitted into since WoW came along 9 years ago. Maybe 'Everquest Next' will work with its destructible environments, but that might just end up being a gimmick.

So i have no idea what i want, i want the traditional holy trinity game play but i also want new ideas and innovation. In short iam screwed!

(Trying out Final fantasy ARR the moment and it is the former, which iam undecided if that's good or not. I tend to play the healers and support classes)

I like holy trinity, tbh - as long as you're not spending 20+ mins looking for a tank: if all classes can tank (say) it's more down to personal preference. You might find a bottleneck and wait a bit here and there, but I prefer that to 'ZERG TIMES' where everyone is DPS. It is more sociable. I don't think it, or a variation of it, necessarily makes a game boring: to me it's an MMO staple, almost like shooting in an FPS and jumping in a platformer. That's what you do. How you got about it is the key, and most devs are pretty conservative.

If WildStar feels fresh, it'll be quite an achievement, and I'll be interested. Might apply for Beta to see.

Is anyone in the Beta? I'm not. :/

If so, how is it? It looks both quite old-school and quite novel. But mainly old-school.

    I.e. old WoW.

Glad to hear you're enjoying. I'd like 'old WoW', but not the same game, and the action combat, classes and much else looks much more modern.

I got in on the Beta this weekend thanks to Lexx. Echo Panda above. Enjoying it a lot, even if it probably won't set the world alight. Like the aesthetic more than I thought I would.

Anyone need a key? Or is it over? As I have one spare?

I would like one if it's a full beta key, I've already played the last two stress tests, enjoying it more than eso.
  • Deleted user 23 February 2014 21:12:21
I'd love it if a full beta key, but Chief claimed first ^^ Otherwise, stress test ends overnight/early tomorrow.

The key is indeed gone. Sent it to RedSparrows as I've known him for a while and he's helped me out in the past. Sorry guys.
  • Deleted user 24 February 2014 08:27:37
When does it go into open beta or atleast slightly less closed beta? A guy at work keeps asking me about it.

Oddly he considers me to be a knowledgeable game person, but that is you guys :)

Might personally wait for full release but that is probably some time away.

I really love the art style of the game, it looks really amazing. Without going into details, I was far less impressed with pretty much every other aspect of the game.

Not necessarily bad, if you like typical MMO's, but it's another that I see going F2P by the end of the year. I think they've hugely misjudged how many people will be willing to pay the subscription, which was seemingly influenced by listening to the hardcore fans on their forums. Big, big mistake.

Not sure why it didn't work, they sent it to me on Thursday, maybe as you've said it was only for one event, I haven't followed the game to know much about it!

Couldn't the counter argument be that those hardcore fans are likely to stump up subs for such a title? If they can get a hundred thousand regular subscribers or so, they could push on. I hope so - I liked it.
