My threads are never successful so if this goes nowhere I apologise =)

I recently had to let my contents insurance aware of my games collection and this involved valuing everything. It was enjoyable and horrifying at the same time so I wondered if people wanted to discuss their own rares and valuables. I thought it might be fun to list the top 3/5/10/whatever in order of their current value, so if you've been wise enough to hang on to something that's turned out to be super valuable here is a good place to brag.

    My top 5:

    1. Snatcher, Mega CD, complete mint. £200+ on a good day.
    2. Sega 32X console, CIB. Since it's the PAL version and has all the bits, £200+. Got for £40 =)
    3. NES Toploader with composite mod. Very sought after in Europe for various reasons - around £125 I think
    4. Chrono Trigger. Even as cart only this cost me £75. AMAZING game.
    5. Knuckles Chaotix. PAL version is rare as hell and as cart only still cost £70.

Boxed versions of Chrono and Knuckles go for around £200/£300 each. I'm not made of money.

I think Snatcher is a good investment. Very low distribution + failed system + only English version of a classic Kojima game mean the value will probably never trend downwards.

I've got a fair few games that are worth around £50 such as boxed copies of every Nintendo Final Fantasy game. Another I'll mention is Twin Snakes, it's my original copy and I had no idea until recently it was holding its value like that.

I've been tempted to take some stuff into GAME to hear their hilarious valuations.

Apparently an empty Snatcher box and manual goes for £50!!

Give yourself £5 or ½ gig, you're worth it.

Havent't really got any unfortunately. The best I can do is an unboxed PAL version of Castlevania IV for the snes, and Shenmue in decent nick for the DC.

How are you valuing these games? Just eBay?

What's up with the pricing of GameCube titles? Wind Waker is expensive as well, and that was quite common I thought.

I remember when you could pick up a SNES for pennies, now they seem to be going in the other direction.

Yes, bog standard Snatcher really is that valuable. It doesn't exist in English on any other platform and it had a production run of something like 5,000. Complete copies are just genuinely rare enough to command the price.

No idea of value but I have some bits from when I worked at Sega building the Dreamarena including versions of the Dreamkey that were never released, a system disk, some white labels, a lovely Sonic art disk with vector images of all the characters and some other asset discs/files.

I think my favourite though is the 3 test disks for ChuChu Rocket. Prior to launch a small group of us logged on to test the servers for a couple of hours on a Sunday evening over 3 weeks. There was a different disk each week. I hadn't moved full time to the Sega offices at that point so not many of the team there knew me, but they did after the first weekend as I was sitting miles ahead on the highscore tables. Managed to extend the lead in the second week and even further in the 3rd week despite having been all day drinking and seeing double (at least).

They're probably not worth anything really in cash terms, but they always make me smile when I sift through the Sega box in the basement.

Yes, there is every chance the limited run is because "snatcher" is a funny word in English.

    Genuinely good game though.

@gamingdave Anything that was never released is generally valuable, especially if it has artwork rather than a CDR with "chuchu rocket" scribbled on it?

@quadfather There are a few websites that let you track the current value of games such as http://videogames.pricecharting.com/ but they're always American values. 9 times out of 10 a European PAL version of a rare game is more valuable so these + eBay is a good enough rough guide.

Is Snatcher really worth £200? It's an easy game to emulate so I'm not sure I understand why anyone would pay that much for it. I'm guessing that's just the ebay asking price, but I bet it actually sells for much less. I mean you even find old editions of FIFA on ebay labelled "rare" with a stupid price tag.

If it does go for £200 then I'm going to sell it tonight. Happen to have the original stored away somewhere.

In my experience the availability of emulators and ROMs hasn't affected values one bit. Games being released on PSN/XBL/VC doesn't seem to have an affect either.

You're right that some sellers will take the piss but they're easy enough to spot, such as anybody claiming a sports game is rare. Some are, but most are definitely not.

Got the Treasure game Bangai-O on the N64 - only 10,000 ever made I think.

Also sealed Metal Gear Solid, Metroid 1&2, Zelda 4 Swords and Paper Mario on the Gamecube. Just never got round to playing them. Obviously cant open them now!

They are completely blank, just coloured disks.

Completely forgot my most valuable game, currently lives in the office but I must get it home again ....

@X201 You'd get someone to buy that for £300 without much difficulty.

Ah Panzer Dragoon Saga. So many times I nearly bought you.
