Figures might be skewed by the fact everyone needed to buy about 3 of them to get a working console.

But at retail does it count as a new sale when there is no new transaction, the unit is just being replaced? And 99% would have been replaced by MS and obviously no impact on sales figures.

Does this mean the 360 is no longer a niche console?

Yeah I think if anything the RROD problems in early models would have decreased sales not increased them, I know a lot off people held of purchasing a 360 over that.

Wonder what MS have to say about the 360 now being in last place in current gen worldwide sales?

Actually that's wrong, the WiiU is current gen so that's last. ;)

@RightBean It's not a replacement if you've thrown it in the bin and gone off to buy a new one.

@midnight, I doubt that accounts for a lot because most happened under warranty. But even so, the people who bought replacement 360's would have been cancelled out by the people who decided not to buy a 360 at all because of the RROD reports.

You should probably subtract some sales figures from Sony and Nintendo to account for the fact that would-be Xbox customers were buying a competitors console out of RROD fear. My launch 360 lasted 2 years and I sold it to get a PS3, partly because I was concerned it might RROD. 6 months later my PS3 YLOD'd and it went in the bin. :)

It's the only console I've ever bought twice if that makes any difference, and the first one still works despite getting an E73 or whatever error and being sent off for repair.

I'll never get my Orc looking the same again.

Being in last place when all three consoles have sold shitloads but you increased your market share isn't that much of an issue. Bit of a difference to the previous gen when being in last place meant you were 100m consoles behind.

My first 360 died twice (and repaired for free twice) and now lives in my office, I bought the 360 S because it goes with my black TV on my black TV stand (sad I know).

Also how do we know how many PS3s have actually sold? Sony spent a long time bundling PS3 and PS2 figures together, for some obscure reason.
