@King_Edward Which was probably Sony's plan as well. Pretend to play nice then in a couple years start having games come out with the odd DRM policy attached to it.

I doubt it. It's gone for good. When the core gamers who are the kind of people who kick up a fuss (and buy the consoles and the games) kick up a shit storm then of course they're going to listen.

A case of seeing what they can get away with?

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

If it's true then Microsoft have eaten a massive slice of humble pie, credit to them, and credit to people for voicing their concerns so vocally.

In the end, it's good for everyone. We get to keep the same rights as before and ultimately, makes things more competitive between Microsoft and Sony which will benefit us, the consumer.

Still, it's 80-100 more expensive for a bit of functionality I don't want anything to do with and that is still a sticking point for a good number of people you would imagine. It's too much to ask for a price cut at this stage.

credit where its due, a good time to do it as well, people would have mostly forgot about all this in a few months time.

DRM will still happen, one or both will drip feed it back into this generation.

So can I still DL every game to the HDD and not have to switch discs? If not because of this change in policy, then WTF!

Have they covered the nuclear submarine angle? That is a key concern for me.
They've generated such a huge amount of negative publicity, reversing it will be much harder.

@Tuffty Yep there is that, although my gold sub has best part of a year left to run and i'm not on ps+, so I can factor that into the initail cost.

Fair play. Those PS4 pere orders must have scared the shit out of them.

Cliffy B will be slitting his wrists somewhere. Idiot

EG are going to miss out on all the hits by being late.

can't wait to see the people who endoresed the DRM in the first place have to say on this.

Was getting a X1 anyways but its clear some were never even going to consider one because of the DRM.[which was not as bad as some made out]
  • Deleted user 19 June 2013 21:33:12
The One always excited me more than the ps4 but you would have had to be a bit of a can't to pre order with the mess they were enforcing. Will be delighted if this is all true and involves substantial backtracking.

Similarly you wouldn't want to be the Microsoft PR to come out and say "We fucked up."

This is, lest we forget, also the result of some massive PR blunders by Microsoft too which haven't done them any favours in the eyes of the public.

As I said regarding Sony, the right decision eventually is still the right decision.
Well done everyone for keeping the pressure on.

Bit embarrassing to make such a huge u-turn. I just hope it doesn't come at the expense of some of the decent stuff the One does.

@SparkyMarky81 not as embarrassing as the sales figures would have been without it

I think I'll wait for an official Microsoft announcement before jumping to any conclusions. But this does seem like the right move considering how much heat they've taken over these policies.
