For me the PS3 came out on top. Bought two PS3s during its life span, bought and played the most games for it, and online was free to play.

Wii was innovative with Wii-Fit and Wii-Sports, while the Super Mario Galaxys were outstanding.

Xbox360 my first console of last gen and the most disappointing. Tiny 20gb hard drive, and needed a wireless bridge to connect online. The last game I played on it was Mass Effect 2 and I had not bought a game for it for over a year before that came out.

ATM little disappointed with my Wii-U. Battery life for gamepad is short, the cpu is slow for first loads, and its a bit buggy sometimes when switching between programs. Also playing a game for the first time requires a ten minute unlock and upgrade the game.

Well, it clearly wasn't Matthew Kelly.

PC won last generation, as it will this one as well.

Up until a year ago it looked like the 360 by a pretty large margin.

I'd still say that the 360 won, but PS+ and a superior final software line up has meant the PS3 is finishing far stronger than any of us would have believed during the first couple of years.

Personally the PS3 won but that's because I had a PC for multi-platform games and the PS3 exclusives are far closer to my tastes.

I will still be playing "last Gen" for a good while into 2015 I would assume, anyway for me:
360, sublime in all that I ask it to do, and it has Gears of course ;)

I have had one since 2007 (might be 2006) and played on it weekly since then give or take.

I do think the PS3 is a brilliant machine as well though...I'm waiting for The Last Of Us to drop through the letterbox anytime now. I have defo used it as an exclusives console though.

Wii: Xenoblade and a few others, but mostly backwards for my cube games. My daughter plays it a lot though.

    PS4 at the moment.

I'd say Angry Birds won everything.

I kinda think last gen was a story of two. The first 5 years saw the 360 dominate, but the last 5 years saw Sony bring out far more quality and offers with things like PS+; leading to PS4 winning the second half of the gen.

Sony won. They started out as cunts and ended up as nice guys who want to do right by their customers.

MS took the same road, in reverse.

I'd say mobile gaming probably won. I don't think there's much to choose between the consoles, plenty of room to improve/destroy your fanbase next gen.

Gens are defined by each console start and end of life. It's been roughly 8 years since 360/PS3 and its still not over. The first 5, 360 was great, but slowly PS3 has been getting better. In my view, the last 5 years - including ones still to come, will have PS3 in a stronger position.

    Everyone's a winner!

(Except you, Jimmy. You didn't win.)

The concept of wining is awful but I guess if we are talking end user experience. Ps3 wins with a very slow and rocky start. Better games (subjective, obviously.), free online and superb ps+ benefits (objective).

As others have said the 360 started way stronger than the PS3, with better exclusives and superior versions of multiformat games. But in the end the PS3 was best imo. Better exclusives by the end, PS+, no pay wall for basic features, not to mention the fact that my 360 died twice while I'm still on my first PS3.

The less said about the Wii the better. I know it sold well and some people love it but it was an awful console. Few great games, massively under powered, motion controls that were rarely good and inspired Microsoft and Sony to copy them taking gaming in a terrible new direction. Mine sat in a corner collecting dust for most of the gen.

Nintendo won the battle. Remains to be seen who wins the war.

I've asked the 17 year old work experience kid and apparently the xBox 360 won because the Play Station Caller Dooty players are noobs.

2005-2009, 360 by a very wide margin. 2010-2013, PS3 by a very wide margin. Overall, PS3, just. But that could be because it's more fresh in my memory.

In terms of returning customers for next gen and winning hearts and minds at the end of this gen it's Sony for sure.

I terms of units sold and attach rates, MS by a country mile.

Sums up my thoughts very well. MS went Kinect centric, Sony created PS+.
