    This really could go in one of the other threads, but I too was delighted by this.

    Didn't they say the exact same thing about PS3?

    Hell no.

    They said PS3 could do 2x 1080p @ 60fps.

    PS3 can run games at 120 frames per second, stream six channels of HD, and decode one thousand media thumbnails simultaneously. — Ken Kutaragi and Phil Harrison, in a translated interview with Nikkei BP and the PS3 E3 reveal respectively.

    I appreciate this goes against your typical fanboy's thought patterns, but it's possible that Microsoft are pushing for the same thing as well you know. Just not something that has yet been publicly aired.

    Let's hope they can realise that dream of matching up to a PC from a decade ago.

    @Syrette

    I believe Microsoft is pushing for 1080p24 only.

    1080p at 60fps will surely make the underlying gameplay great.

    Fantasy =/= Reality.

    Even if they push it no body will ever care, only COD and FIFA and reactivity dependant games will have that snapiness, devs will do it the way they feel is more appropriate to their gameplay style, graphics or fluidity, others will opt for 30FPS and bring the best graphics that they promise to have at each generation, so if they're really trying to run this shit at 60FPS it'll represent no visual improvement (apart from blowing the resolution twice and having double the framerate) over last gen console, which is as far as all gamers are concerned is why a next-gen is here at all, this is a luxury that will remain for those who can pay the premium to get a solid gaming rig.

    If you want to play all your games at 60FPS, pay more and get a nice Haswell CPU, 8GB of nice DDR3 RAM, a 7950 at the very least and there ya go.

    Don't get me wrong, the push for more framerate is in itself good, but will only prevent developpers from upping up their graphics and get the most of the new hardware.

    Not when there's nothing worth playing, it doesn't. Another step in the wrong direction.

    I can't find that they did... only that they talked a lot about how the PS3 could have 1080p and the 360 couldn't.

    They did say something else which sounds very familiar, though:
    Sony has also stated that the PS3 will have similar online connectivity and services as the next generation of Xbox Live. Calling it "an always on, always connected device," SCEI's chief technical officer Masa Chatani said the PS3 would be constantly in touch with a "PlayStation World" network "fundamentally based on community, communication commerce, and content."

    Problem is, ea aren't porting the next gen FIFA engine to the PC. Ming the merciless looking cunt.

    I don't want all my games looking like a TV soap. 30 fps, with perhaps a touch of motion blur, is just right for that cinematic feel.

    Aren't Killzone 4 and DriveClub at a locked 30 fps?

    I'm pushing for weight lifting Olympic gold. I'll probably just stick with getting all the shopping in in one go.

    @meme I guarantee there are many console titles that would be drastically improved by an increase to 60fps. The 1080p I'm not so bothered about

    Some genres suit it, some don't. I think it's fair to expect racing games to manage 60fps as standard, fighting games would probably all benefit from it and it suits some shooters (Rage looks amazing and you can't claim it looks like a soap opera). Although I'm not sure it would suit an RPG or third person shooter - can anyone think of an example in either genre which has had 60fps?

    But generally I'd say a solid frame rate @ 30 and no technical faults like screen tearing etc are more important than a higher frame rate.

    I didn't like the look of Rage and I thought it did look like a soap. Although that may be down to it making me feel nauseous. :-(

    I know Killzone is. I'm hoping they'll be able to increase the frame rate between the February reveal and November release, but as I understand it RAM doesn't necessarily apply to things like frame rate.

    No, it really doesn't. So I'm guessing the framerate will stay at 30, unless they suddenly find a source of huge untapped optimising potential.

    Whereas I'm going to actually attempt the lift, shit my pants, and dump 1/2 my colon too in the inevitable strain.

    A bit like most consoles really.
