The idea is very simple. The project is about linking two passions, for music and musical instruments and computer games. The aim of The Tomb Raider Guitar Project is to create a unique musical instrument being a tribute to timeless Gibson SG design also timeless video game - Tomb Raider. Presently, guitar building is about complicated machinery and automated processes BUT this very instrument is going to be built with the basic tools and loads of human passion and involvement so in the end the one holding it will be able to feel that passion in every curve of it. The customized graphics and embossed elements taken straight from Tomb Raider game will be applied on both body and neck of the guitar. LET'S ROCK!

As someone who also combines those two hobbies, that looks like the single tackiest idea I've seen in ages.

And I include the machine gun guitar in that:

I don't get it. I always had Lara down as more of a pianist.

I think it's an interesting experiment. The Tomb Raider theme willl counter the sex appeal of the guitar. I'll be interested to see how this pans out for the owner. Will they or won't they get laid.

Let me know what you think... this is my first attempt to be honest - I have never designed any guitars :) I am a web designer in Square Enix.

Our back looks a little bit different now.

Needs more cleavage. What are the chances of it becoming an official product?

I doubt Crystal Dynamics could make it an official product... but who knows ;-) if they have it in the office in SF on the wall, that would be cool. We also want to use it in the upcoming movie, but I can't say a word more about it right now.

Ok, so this wasn't a belated April Fools joke ;)
    Some serious feedback:

    > The neck fretboard inlays could relate to traditional inlay positions if you want them to be meaningful. I.e. 3,5,7,9,12,15,17 and so on.
    > I realise its a mock-up, but the tuner buttons are in the wrong position.
    > If you're going all graphical on its arse, is it worth adding something you can't normally do and marking up the pots with VOLUME, TONE and the switch with the traditional RHYTHM/TREBLE type?
    > What exotic hardwood are you sourcing for the grey fretboard? ;)

Talking about inlays: this time visual aspects won the battle, perhaps because with time they are not of so much use; Tuners: the visualization here does not reflect the real thing, surely it will be standard 3+3; Volume,Tone, Rhythm/Treble: worth considering, thanks, we haven't started painting yet so anything's possible; Fretboard wood: in fact it is not grey but kind of whitish, there were a lot of ideas and hesitations here, finally we decided to make it with maple, some people say good guitars are made with ebony fretboards and bad with maple ones, well, we are not on the same page with people making it that simple, hope it is not disappointing... :-)

No, not at all. Mostly SGs use rosewood because that suits the darker rock sound they get used for, but you can buy a couple of maple necked SGs, just a slightly brighter sound.

The inlays really will bother the end user if this isn't their only guitar. You get used to marks in certain positions and use them as anchors as you play. If it's your only guitar, fine, you'll adjust, but then you'll struggle to play anything else and it'll become a bone of contention, you can put your house on it...

I'm an SG player myself (got the beautiful 60s Tribute amongst other things).

Please don't hurt that lovely guitar!

Can you put xbox/ps3 button decals on the pots and maybe the inlays, in tribute to the timelessness of bloody QTEs? :)

Also, it'd be nice if the guitar could double as a crossbow.

    I'm a grumpy bastard.

The long expected moment is coming. The TRG is being finished. Due to the fact you support us so much and follow our struggles on FB we decided to prepare two surprises. The first one is the video we mentioned about before BUT this time we have something really really outstanding.

Let us introduce Patrycja who is going to star our promotional video. We want to emphasize she is not going to the new or any Lara Croft. She is going to be herself and that is something even more exciting.

So... does she play it, or shoot it with a crossbow?

    Mine is all maple ;)

Makes it a lot brighter. May be too biting for many, but I love it.
