Surprised there's no thread already, this is pretty high profile.

Anyway, new TV series about Hannibal Lecter premiered tonight. Except it's not really about Lecter, but about Will Graham. First episode was pretty interesting, and it seems like it'll be a lot more than "Will and Hannibal solve a crime a week" sort of thing. Mads Mikkelsen is interesting as Lecter, somewhere inbetween Hopkin's pantomime sinister and Brian Cox's grounded reality, though his accent was a bit hard to decipher at times. If it takes off I can easily see him taking over the role for a movie, let's put it that way.

The show is effectively a reboot, too - it seems to discard Hannibal Rising altogether (which is good, as it was shit), and heavily alters the events leading up to Red Dragon. The most interesting thing is that it heavily implies that Will Graham may not be so innocent either, and that Lecter may be pushing him to become what Lecter himself is.

Anyway, interesting show. Worth checking out. Only bad note was that Lawrence Fishburne's soul patch looks stupid.

Who is Will Graham? The detective in Red Dragon?

Mads Mikkelsen is awesome though and I can definitely see him as Hannibal.

If you can read this you really need to fiddle with your forum settings.

Bates motel is pretty good too, though it's less a Psycho prequel and more a "we've taken the names and are doing something completely new". The time period is very well done, though - it's set in modern day but there's loads of random anachronisms that makes it seem like the 60s.

What channel is this on? I have never heard of it

NBC over here. Don't think it's airing in the UK yet, so you're stuck with torrents.

That was good stuff. Mads Mikkelsen is really compelling to watch.

What decade is it supposed to be set? Got a late 70s vibe from it with Morpheus wearing a paisley tie and a lot of other stuff, but they had reasonably modern phones. Odd.

Aah neat, didn't know about this. Thanks for the heads up!

It's modern day with a slight 70s/80s aesthetic, though not as prominent as Bates Motel's modern/retro mix.

NBC are bound to fuck this up somehow. Also it's a Bryan Fuller thing, so cancellation beckons before it's started.

High profile though as you say, we shall see.

It's starts on Sky Atlantic soon over here.

My only problem is that Thomas Harris has nothing to do with the series.

I'm still waiting for a proper adaptation of the novel Hannibal though, complete with Children's tears cocktail this time please!

I couldn't deal with the various ads posted all over the screen for Ready for Love or whatever so off it went. It seems quite rubbish anyway but the guy playing the aspy policeman was alright but yeah, pretty rubbish although to be fair I find almost all television programs unwatchable (my spellchecker suggests unwatchable isn't a word) dross anyway. :)

@Gambit1977 Yeah, the photography seemed a cut above your usual TV drama, too. Definitely interested in seeing how it progresses.

    @BlackJedi
That's down to the director being David 'Hard Candy' Slade. I'm sure the guy could make moss look good!

Both this and Bates Motel have been extremely pleasant surprises I have to admit. Bates is 2:1 superb eps so far, with episode 2 being the poorest of the 3 and more 'monster of the week' type.

I'm really impressed with Mikka Hakkinen's acting. Great to see he has found a role outside of motor racing.

Well acted and produced and casted and absolutely not my cup of tea.

    I found it rather vulgar.

The hunt for a serial killer is boiled down to some spooky visions and a missing home adress. Bravo Sherlock!

"He has extreme empathy" gurgles Mads Mikkelsen. "Good thing people in general don't, cause why the fuck would they watch this murder porn if they did? It's not as if there's any tension or detective work on display. Heck, our people even struggle to make a connection between pierce wounds and antler residue until Will has one of his CGId visions. We just ship Will from place to place with me in tow and let him fondle stuff until he can "see" the murderer."

If you can read this you really need to fiddle with your forum settings.
