It’s an understatement to say DuckTales was a hit. Not only did it lead to a huge number of additional Disney animated shows that entered the “Disney afternoon” syndication package—shows like Chip ’N’ Dale Rescue Rangers, TaleSpin, and Darkwing Duck
I watched all of those. There is a reason why this period is so fondly remembered, there are a lot of great shows.

I know it's a real 'nostalgia ain't what it used to be' kind of thing but kids cartoons are proper shite nowadays. Programming as a whole is good, but the cartoons are fucking chronic.

The Disney CGI stuff really is crap but there are some geninely great animated shows for kids out there. Phineas and Ferb in particular is a standout

They did a whole weekend of old 80's and 90's shows on the CITV channel about a month ago to celebrate CITV's 30th birthday, and it was brilliant. Knightmare, Fraggle Rock, Dangermouse, Press Gang, The Riddlers, Mike & Angelo*, etc. Can imagine loads of the kids who normally watch it thought it was bollocks though.
Yup, watched most of em - the only one that's still awesome is Finders Keepers! The rest have aged badly!
    Bollocks, Dangermouse is still great.

I'll never get my Orc looking the same again.

When I watch the made for TV budget CGI stuff they put on the Disney Channel with my kid, I'm genuinely sad for him that he won't get stuff like this. The quality of their TV output these days is miserable.

I don't know why they don't just re-run the 80s stuff, or even the classic stuff.

Agreed it's just terrible, every time my little one watches that awful Mickey Mouse Clubhouse I can't help but think back to House Of Mouse and feel sad for her. They love it though :(

Ducks Tales was so awesome I love that theme tune, this thread makes me want to watch old Disney cartoons.

Teh irony is the BBC gave up on doing TV for older children as they figured they are all too busy playing video games. (so its the gamers faults?)

There's also some ban on advertising junk food to children which unfortunately was what was paying for the decent stuff made on CITV.

I've been introducing these shoes to my girlfriend's little nephew and niece over the last few years. They're absolutely hooked to Gummi Bears at the mo.

Oddly enough, I was climbing around in my loft on the day that this thread was started - I came back down with my Duck Tales DVD box set. Over the years I have sold off all the blu-rays and DVDs that I've ever owned - but I never had the heart to part with this one.

edit: I'd also like to add that there ARE still some excellent cartoons out there. Adventure Time, The Amazing World of Gum Ball and the new Looney Tunes series are up there with the best.

@megastar Let me just add. Sooty hasn't aged, and Dangermouse has silly humour that still works well.

The other stuff had aged a lot, though I was impressed that Press Gang was as good and sharp as I remembered as a kid.

I'd like to see an HD remaster of Quackshot. That was an awesome game (and pretty much Duck Tales 2).

Was going to say, Quackshot is the one really worth re-doing. Looks good though.

Bit harsh. I'd say Ducktales is at least in the top five.

Duck Tales was also kind of Castle of Illusion 2, which is another one I'd like to see an HD remix of.

They really ran out of ideas towards the end of the theme song didn't they.

Castle of Illusion 2 was World of Illusion, and that was mostly cock. Magical Quest on the SNES was pretty good, though.

That's the year Carl Barks retired so in a way the canonical Scrooge Mcduck was put to rest. I think he did one more story though after that, in the 70s.

Castle of Illusion was fantastic - beautiful music, backgrounds and sprites.

The first game that I purchased with my own money, too.

edit: whoops - I meant 'Castle' not 'World' - although World was great fun in co-op.

    Meh, Merrie Melodies > Disney

Re those ITV reruns, caught Knightmare, Press Gang and Dangermouse. Biggest disappointment was Dangermouse - while the jokes were extremely simple and repetitive it was for younger kids, and I certainly didn't mind that back in the day, but the animation was shocking. Knightmare still played well, though it obviously wasn't a happy studio (at least by the time the episode they showed was filmed). The only thing I have to say about Press Gang is to express my amazement that Dexter Fletcher kept up that accent for the entire series.

Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

What no remake thread? Or is the search just rubbish?

    Polygon gave it 5/10. Hmm.

Any Netflix library in the world for a couple of quid a month? Gimme!
