    As far as I remember, some of the events that you can choose within MGS1 aren't canon anyway, if you choose the wrong one.

    MGS - Story was fine and understandable.

    MGS2 - Story made sense but was buried under unnecessarily long cut scenes and Raiden's whining.

    MGS3- Best story of the lot.

    MGS4 - See MGS2.

    It's far from perfectly understandable, it's like a story that was written by an insane child and then pieced together by someone else into something that was just about passable.

    Yes it can be understood but it's so bat-shit mental that it doesn't really encourage it and generally only the persistent will 'get' it all. You then have to ask yourself if it was worth the payoff. I also don't think that MGS1-3 make that much sense on their own or even together, 4 is the one that finally explained what the hell was going on.

    I haven't played MGS3 but from what I understand it's a self-contained story with minor references to the sequels/prequels, so it doesn't have to deal with the mess they made prior to it.

    The boss fights were a bit shit in MGS3, because the weapon selection and menu system was designed for stealth based action where you pause in the shadows, select and prepare your method then strike like a cobra.

    In the boss battles you have to frig about too much pausing the game, then reacting to a pattern then pause again.

    Inelegant imo.

    MGS4, imo would have got a 9 if you take the first half of the game which was also the best game ever. The second half was an abortion, and the final one on one fight was like if tekken was one big QTE.

    Truly awful.
