This is sort of my thinking. The term obviously refers to cel-shading animation in cartoons. And if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck...

That said, Mr_Brett has raised a lot of interesting stuff I've never really thought of before.

Judging by the Readers Poll my most unpopular gaming opinion is that Dishonored is a crushingly dull game that I can't even gather the enthusiasm to play past the second mission.
I've just started playing it and the escape from Prison is terribly dull (reminds me of the start of Oblivion). I expect it to improve once I get access to some powers and the levels open up a bit.

Yep, I haven't played dishonoured yet. I own it.

It does improve, the prison level is more of an intro/tutorial. In the proper missions you get the different routes and options as well as start to unlock the powers. That's when it gets good.

    Portable view - Never forget.

Long time Xbox owner and I have never played Halo, is that strange?

I have never played Halo. Like most modern games, it strikes me as a bit joyless and boring.

I'm sure a lot of these have been covered but my suggestions:
    1) Blizzard make boring games - and are generally overrated as a developer.
    2) Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is one of the gaming highlights of this generation, and I really don't like COD.
    3) Hideo Kojima is rubbish at making games. MGS would be so much better if he wasn't at the helm.
    4) The aesthetic, story and setting of Halo and Gears of War is boring and primarily aimed at over-excited American teenage boys.
    5) The gameplay in Bioshock was average - I did like the setting and story, though.

@RichieTenenbaum That's how I feel and i've played through the first 3. Even multiplayer doesn't compare to so many others in the genre.

Japanese games only dropped the ball on the 360/PS3. They were still excellent on the Wii and the handhelds.

I agree with the second half.

Not entirely sure this qualifies for the thread.

I do t get valve. Half life 2 was ok I guess. Didn't finish it. Finished both Portals but not sure i enjoyed them.

I rarely enjoy games nowadays. I just there with a dead expression, trying to complete it so I can justify the money spent. Most of the time I give up after an hour or two because its a chore. A lot of the time I play until the final boss, then just walk away because the ending will be shit and that's it then.

The only games I truly enjoy are FIFA and EDF split screen.

Half Life 2 is the definition of overrated. It is a good/great game, but is treated like the second coming.

TBH, most games bore me these days. I think this is why I find myself being drawn back to Nintendo consoles. It's probably nostalgia but there's something nice about their accessibility and their obstinate refusal to follow current trends.

Ooh here's one. The story in the MGS series (and specifically MGS2) is perfectly understandable, anyone who didn't understand what was going on clearly didn't bother following/listening.

Disclaimer: this isn't a 'you just don't get it' post. You can like or dislike it all you want, it's completely bonkers, but it is perfectly understandable within its own universe if you bother keeping up.

It's certainly legible. Whether it's good is a different question.

MGS2's story started off well, but quickkly fell into a ditch. Couldn't wait to finish it and put it behind me.

Online gaming can ruin the mindset for SP games. If you're used to the ratio of abject frustration and excitement of MP games like FIFA and cod it can render SP games exactly as you described; 'a chore'

I didn't have a fucking clue what was happening in MGS2. I did at one point, but then it descended in WTFness.

    Get bent.

I couldn't have been much older than that. When was it released?

    2002 according to Wiki so I would've been 14.

2001 apparently. So I was 11 (fairly sure I played it on release). Which is worrying actually because I'm playing it on my Vita and I'm finding it fucking hard.

    Get bent.

MGS2 revealed how fucking anime MGS was, that I'm pretty sure the coherency of MGS1 was a fluke or he fired whoever was working with him.

And that is 'you just don't get it' post. I can't remember many things from MGS series nowadays, but I remember it's not perfectly understandable without copious amounts of backstory and logic that wraps around itself in regards to completely illogical events regarding triple(or even quadruple?)-agents, stupid deaths or stupidly long end-games.
