What a quick Google seems to point at, while is is very early days, I doubt Sony have the cash to do a Cell 2, or pay for any high end CPU. All the next gen will bring is 1080p with better effects/detail at 30 FPS (consumer TV's don't warrant anything better) so an A10 with a custom build is more then enough for this.

    "You're"

But no, it's dead. Hell, even releasing new colours in Japan only took it to 13k sales. It's dead, dead, dead, dead, dead.

No-one wants it, its two western saviours were shit (AC / BLOPS) and there's nothing worthwhile on the horizon, especially in Japan.

@mikew1985 So me calling a obviouis generalisation stupid is retarded. But you calling me retarded is a sign of you superior intelligence? Well okay.

    @RobTheBuilder

That independent person's opinion on the forbes website isn't even worth discussing just yet.

The Vita was firmly aimed at the west where PSP sales were falling (unlike Japan), much like we'll see with the 360 leading up to E3 unless Microsoft inject new life after Christmas,

Sony aren't happy with Vita sales in the west either, but it is gathering momentum (new firmware/PS+, games library growing) and about to have its first western Christmas. If after a big February/march price cut for the console and cards it doesn't gather good momentum in the west, and Japanese interest still isn't in place, then it might result in the first set of discussions about whether the platform is viable. But certainly not now.

Even in six months the landscape will be different as the parts will cost them less, and new software from the likes of Media Molecule will be ready.

@Psychotext Time will tell. But I do apologize for the name-calling.

Oh, and just to make it further clear that it's dead, the 3DS in the last six weeks sold more than the Vita has since it was released.

    Dead.

Nope pming someone to call them an idiot is ludicrously childish. The way I see it everyone else in the thread put forward reasoned statements based on the current state of things.

@Psychotext Well, see, the dreamcast, despite its commercial failure, is far from dead in people's hearts.

Alright so it's dead. I am wrong. The 3DS, despite having very few interesting games, wins. I am childish, you are wise.

@vizzini with 3ds momentum and wiiU it might affect it at Christmas.
I think it needs a killer few games to drive it, as right now it seems like great tech with little exciting and new to play.
  • Deleted user 24 November 2012 00:02:51
Vita has all the interesting games. That's why it's not selling - sound logic

Consoles are a dying breed. If Sony quit the market, we're left with Nintendo and Microsoft. Jesus. Imagine.

Yeah. So much less bullshit and maybe we could have sega back :)

Well a look at metacritic will seem to confirm this.

@ico not sure where I said that tbh.
Its clearly not dead yet, but it needs to pick up soon or publishers will start to back out of games.

I wasn't trying to insult you, just seems that the market Vita is going into has diminishe hugely. Partly from iPhone and 3ds, perhaps partly through tiredness around the current generation. Also, people being skint.

    Dead.
Why so happy about trying to force something that isn't true?

You do realise that this is a gaming website? Gaming is good? Death of any great gaming product is bad? The Vita might not be the right price with a memory card for people waiting for subsidized hardware, but you'd have to really dislike gaming to not appreciate how awesome the hardware is.

The games are also much better than EG's reviews, give them credit. Gamers waiting for the price cut, or not into portable, fair enough. People just not wanting it to do well, aren't gamers (imo).

The PSP was a slow burner in Japan during the DS domination; the problem with the Vita like in the PSP early years, is Sony seem to be intent on porting console games to a handheld device, instead of creating handheld games for a handheld device.

@RobTheBuilder I thank you for your kind reply. I am not a fanboy for any console, but I do like what Sony does with PS plus, and I even love Ridge Racer on Vita, which I think is kind of misunderstood.

I mean they are doing a lot of things right. Lower prices. PS plus. Cross play.

@Sid-Nice definitely. When PS3 was new and exciting that's a selling point, but as much as I love the hardware, little of the software has looked tempting enough yet.

How has it done so badly? It has great potential, I've always wanted one but never been able to afford it, the price point was never good. Despite the price, I can't believe it's flopped so badly. Seems beyond saving now.

Nintendo, however, are milking their old franchises to no end, which hardly ingratiates them with me. Not that they care.
