Because it means you can play one of the best rpgs ever made without being tethered to a pc?

Would make a great way to pass a long boring commute.

Given the "proper version" has been available for more than ten years now, I really don't see anything to give a shit about besides the mobile ports. I'll be sticking with my DVD and mods as far as my PC is concerned.

yeah i know what you mean, ive recently played through from BG to start of ToB using he BGtrilogy mod. i imagine more fun than battering through vainnal BG with a few tweaks that the EE edition is going to be.
Now if it worked on my HTC one X without the buttons being too fiddly now thats another story.

Yes PC version as I missed out on the original version back in the day.
I very very much enjoyed NWN though.

If you're willing to shell out twice as much money on unproven content, you're a braver man than I am.

I'm willing to shell out twice as much money (which still isn't a lot actually) to be able t play one of the best games ever made n the move. That alone justifies the cost to em. All the extra content is just a very tasty brucey bonus.

So we agree : the most exciting thing on offer here are the mobile ports.
I imagine this isn't a bundle thing, and that they'll have you paying for every version ?

Yes but they are looking at cross system saves, if I remember correctly.

Yes there will be cross save between various platform to be patched in at a later date.

I still got orginial PC multi CDs and later DVD boxed versions as well as mods, but I m very excited to play on iPad as the idea of being able to play while commuting (I do go down to London from Newcastle once or twice a month) or in bed is just ...heaven!

Playing games on touch screen tablets are hit and miss sure, but this time of game where pauses in between combat rounds and mouse = touch screen should works reasonably fine.

    What not to love?!

I'm debating a tablet for the Christmas ( cept the usual wtf one should I get kinda puts me off) and this is one of the main reasons. I ain't actually played Baldur's Gate that much, but BG2 and Planescapes are 2 of my all time favourites. So it would be like a new game nearly. I hope it's a huge success, as I'd love to see the sequel redone.

You know, after going back to it, I kind of wish they'd just done BG2 instead. BG1 is, in my opinion, massively overrated. The plot's dull and boring, the world's mostly empty and character interaction is limited at best. BG2 fixed all of those problems. All of those can be fixed with mods, too, though mods that Beamdog left out of the Enhanced Edition port.

Apparently the new content is tedious and boring, though I don't think I can be arsed to go and look for myself. Absolutely not worth buying the PC version on its own, when the version from GOG with auto-installing and configuring mods and patches remains superior.

I'd agree, loads of argument about which is better, Planescape or BG2, not too many say BG. I just hope it's successful enough to give us BG2 and Planescape. I'm getting a Ipad for xmas, so I do hope BG is better then I remember.

They should just have done what mods allow : a complete trilogy in one go. The 20 dollar price tag would have seemed a whole lot less outrageous than it does now.

Well once theyre all done and out there, hopefully they will give you the ability transfer your save from the 1st to the second. Otherwise it will be largely pointless having the whole lot out there as an enhanced edition.

yeah i feel they really should have spoken with some of the better mod creators and incorporated them in this "enhanced" edition. i auume this version of BG1 has the stuff that were in BG2 such as dual wield and is the level cap lifted?

Asking $20 for a fourteen year old game is one thing, using the work of an unpaid community for a commercial project quite another !

As far as I can tell from Trent Oster's Twitter, they haven't even submitted the iPad build yet.

They resubmitted but were rejected again I think. I'm waiting on their android build and am still hoping for this year.
