No, Cape Wrath is at the other end of the top bit of Scotland.

LBro, I don't think anyone did as 3 of you got an answer each..
I'll think of another question when I get off my current telecon.

OK, I've no idea if this one will be laughably easy or not:
In The Day of the Triffids, what were Triffids originally farmed for?

    Away you go Mr Grembles...

Can't think of anything else, so I'll throw this easy one out.

Who ends up King of Denmark after Claudius, in Hamlet?

Yarp. Told you it was easy.

Although if you want to be horribly pedantic, technically he doesn't, he's just nominated as potential heir. But it can be happily assumed he won election with no problems, so I'm not going in for any of that trick question guffery. LBro's turn.

Awesomely, Hamlet doesn't just have one son seeking revenge for his father's murder (like the source material) but four...

Side qu to Gremmi - name them.

Main question - what is Fermi's paradox?

Is that the one where he reckons you might as well be religious because if you're wrong it doesn't matter, and if you're right you get to go to heaven? (as opposed to going to hell if you're irreligious and happen to be wrong)

Oh. What's that one called then? It's gonna bug me if I don't remember it
  • Deleted user 11 January 2013 16:38:22
Fortinbras, Hamlet, Laertes...blanking on the fourth, unless it's the one in the play within the play that I can't remember.

Top marks Gremmi, I felt dirty including the fourth but on the other hand fuck it.

Oh wait, Pyrus? Or Pyyyrrrrus or however it's spelt.

EDIT: Yes, Pyrrhus. Ended up looking it up in the text. Act two, scene two, for anyone who cares.

Is Fermi's paradox the one where if you have a 1 in 3 chance of being correct, then an incorrect answer is removed, you have a better chance of being correct if you then change your mind than if you don't?

The world is going mad. Me? I'm doing fine.

Well, that's commonly known as the Monty Halls question.
I'm not going to say it's *not* Fermi's paradox though.

Is it the one that calculates how many aliens there are supposed to be in the entire universe? Dunno how that's a paradox, though. Maybe that's Fermi's Equation or something.

I wikied it - the paradox is that the universe is so massive that the probability of there being other life is pretty high. Yet there's no evidence that any of it has found us yet.

    Fermi's paradox. Some mathematical equation?

    Or was that Fermat?

    Don't know.

@meme - that's the Drake equation yer thinking of.
  • Deleted user 11 January 2013 17:56:52
I knew it involved aliens. But that's about it.
