    Any idea when/if we'll get a new Nexus 10? Love what I'm hearing about the new 7, but the screen just ain't big enough to justify getting one when I already have a Galaxy S2 for browsing from the couch.

    @phAge

    Samsung is working on it, according to rumours: http://mobile.theverge.com/2013/7/25/4555860/sundar-pichai-samsung-making-new-nexus-10-tablet

    Excellent. I tried my brother's Galaxy 10.1, and the size was spot-on - but the low-res screen and obvious performance problems were dealbreakers. Fix those and I'm all over it.

    The bezel on the Nexus 10 is hilarious. How anyone can use that and not feel like an idiot I don't know. Hopefully they focus on that with the next iteration.

    The surface rt is brilliant and I would definitely suggest having a look at one.

    @Shikasama

    I was dissatisfied with the handling of my iPad 3, made me wish for a Nexus 7 that you might hold comfortably in one hand. Would be interesting to read your thoughts on this.

    I see, makes sense. I'm not a big fan of the widescreen format too, most I did on the tablet was web browsing, and 4:3 is ideal for that imo.

    The handling problems I had with the iPad were 1) too heavy and 2) the aluminum case is slippery. I liked the grippier back of the Nexus 7, although I only held that in my hands in the shop for a minute or so.

    Probably the iPad Mini would be best for me, but that's too expensive and I learned to hate iOS.

    My aunties looking for a half decent 10" tab for my cousin for Christmas. Looking between 170-230. Would anyone have a recommendation? Many thanks.

    We have the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and love it. It's really good not without its niggles but to be honest they all have niggles. I'm really pleased with the purchase, had it 4 months now and can't complain

    Looking for a android tablet for the kids around the 80 mark.

    Doesn't have to be 10 inch.

    Most important is build quality and battery life - any recommendations?

    heh, was in a meeting yesterday with someone who was trying to make notes on a 10" Galaxy Note tab thing.

    Kept bashing at it with the stylus and muttering, and every time i glanced at the screen i could see it was frozen and hanging etc

    made me chuckle

    Been asked for advice on a "good value tablet" for my missus's mum.

    She wants something with a reasonable camera, that can play some games (probably android, though the word "ipad" has been mentioned, but I think that is too expensive), and connect to the internet easily and quickly over wifi. I think android is probably the way to go as her grandaughters have an android tablet and would doubtless want to "show granny" how to use it.

    However, I'm not up to date on this and saw that there were some Windoze based ones released recently that were good value for money and could play Steam games (not that she's a gamer).

    Just seen that ibenam's query wasn't answered, but thought I'd ask anyway. Otherwise, I'll get onto Google and figure it out.

    Cheers.

    Nexus 7 is great, if you don't want a 10" screen?

    Thanks. I've got that myself (original version), so I agree. The grandkids (my missus's kids) now have that firmly in their control :)

    I'll take a look and see what the latest version of that costs nowadays.

    She'll want to play candy crush type games, not Quake. Nexus 7, Amazon fire, there's loads that are decent just depends how much you want to spend.

    I would suggest sub-150 sounds fine for them.
  • Deleted user 3 April 2015 09:40:53
    @reviewer Yeah, its a birthday present and I'm not a millionaire, so it will be sub 150. I think book reading, surfing, looking at pictures (and taking them) and playing mindless games is about the extent of it.

    Latest gen Nexus is my daily 7" tablet. Love it. You can customise the interface with alternative launchers, bigger buttons etc.. Camera isn't great though.

    Give me $10 I'm worth it.

    What about one of the Tesco Hudls - 8.3" screen and they're on special for 99. Different colours too if which might be appealing.

    Apparently they're quite good for the price.

    I find seven inches far more manageable, ten is just a bit too big in the hands.
  • Deleted user 3 April 2015 09:50:30
    Thanks mrpon. Just looking at the Nexus and the Fire now. Argos has a 32Gb Nexus for 150 at the moment (as opposed to 230 at Amazon) or the Fire HDX is 169, but the cases etc for that are expensive. Neither have great cameras, I'll have to ask her indoors some more questions than the "brief" I got by text message this morning.

    That was my third initial idea as I've a mate who bought one. I'll have to have a word with him and look at some reviews.
