What do you iOS6 users do for maps and youtube?
How well does the youtube website work on an iPad? It's pretty sweet now that my son knows how to start the app and klick the history button to view his cartoons.

I'm not upgrading until I know I can have an equally smooth way for him to zone out for a while.

Any iPad 2 user that can share his experience?

If you can read this you really need to fiddle with your forum settings.

Just create a bookmark folder for him and teach him Safari, it's no harder.
I don't use maps, personally, though the few times I have looked it's been fine.

I've been holding off on the upgrade too. I was waiting for Google to do a Maps App, though to be fair you can link to it from the home screen.

youtube in safari is pretty shite, it doesnt full screen properly.

I don't care about maps though, i never map on my ipad. People who whack their ipad out in the middle of the street to use google maps are wrong.

True, but it only leaves the tool bar, it's not the end of the world.

We take the ipad with us when we travel and I use the maps a lot. Mostly at the hotell though since it's only a wi fi one.

I did take some screendu,ps before we went walking in the potugese fields and they were very usefull since the route I'd scouted ended with a 2.5meters tall locked gate.

No fullscreen on youtube is a shame. Why won't google do an iPad app? Cnuts!

I don't use maps or youtube on my ipad, so ios6 was great for me :) I would have upgraded for the 'not having to enter my password all the time for store updates' feature.

Full screen works fine, just make sure you're using the desktop version, not the mobile version, of the site. You can switch between the two at the bottom on YouTube.

I haven't upgraded too. Not until Streetview works properly (not safari crap).

    Sweet! Thanks.

In that case, iOS 6 is great

The new YouTube app(that you can download to replace what was taken) is pretty good. Better than the default app.

    Edit

    Oh wait. iPad.

    Lol

Youtube doesn't always work for me on iPad in safari - I often have to refresh the page to make it work.

    The maps are shite.

But otherwise I have no issues with ios6

@Tonka Personally, I've found Jasmine to be a good (and free!) alternative to the YouTube app after upgrading to IOS6

I'll give it a go. It's not as if the existing youtube app is gods gift to man. It would be pretty easy to make improvements on it.

In exactly the same predicament T, my daughter knows YT like the back of her hand. Take one for the team please.

No, YOU go first. I started this thread.

My brother, who isn't as cautious as I, did the upgrade and his experience was the main reason I decided to wait a while.

Search for YouPlayer, looks pretty good and retains the same interface it seems. iOS6 only mind.

    :)

Mine too, really annoyed that someone in my house managed to apply the io6 update when I was at work. Haven't settled on Youtube in safari or one of these third party apps yet.

Is that a good thing that they know YT inside out? I appreciate it can be handy to pass over the ipad my 3 year old for some down time for me, she finds new nursery rhymes and cartoons that I believe benefit her learning, but one time I found here watching the hip thrusting stormtrooper over and over again, it's now here dance of choice!

Well, everything in moderation, as the saying goes. I'd say yes, it is a good thing as no doubt the tablet will become the de facto learning tool when she gets to school. That's not to say she isn't learning other skills with her other (non-electrical) toys, jigsaws, building blocks, puzzle games etc..

She (repeat) watches some strange stuff on there though (closely monitored), some guy opening Kinder Eggs, another painting fake ice creams.

    I worry sometimes.

Absolutely agree with you there, was just trying to give the impression that I'm a responsible father! In moderation the Ipad, with youtube as well, is a fantastic learning tool. The nursery we send them to uses ipads in the pre-school classes already.

I have a brilliant phonics app (abc pocket phonics) that the kids use that I can't recommend enough.

I haven't updated my phone yet either. No point until either Google Maps is back, or apple fix their travesty of a mapping service.
