I never really liked Smallville, but I sort of get why people did. It had a bit of soul at least.

This is pure "by numbers" stuff. It's the kind of thing where you wonder if it's actually a parody.

Tonally, its just all over the place. It flits wildly between heartbreak and idiocy because it wants to be a teen show but its also desperate to be a bit dark because it wants to be batman with arrows.

The funny thing is that the new hawkeye comic is really good and very TV like. It would make a far better show than this shite.

I liked Smallville in a "I know this is really fucking stupid, but I kind of like it anyway" sort of way. It was fun.

This was equally stupid, but had a sort of seriousness that really jarred with the stupidity.

Also at the core of Smallville is a powerful dramatic irony - we know he becomes Superman - and Superman is a character with all kinds of positive associations and nostalgia and warmth and all that. It goes a long way. And even at its worst, Smallville knew how to toy with that, and used it quite well.

Whereas even the biggest Green Arrow fan (of which I don't think many exist) isn't going to get much of a kick from this.

I hope that, like at the end of smallville clark finally shows the costume, at the end of arrow he grows the gay beard and dons the robin hood hat.

I like it, though the last episode seemed incredibly rushed, plowing through a tonne of story all at once. It definitely wants to be Arrowman.

So this is total wank. Scenes are wholesale ripped off the Nolan Batman films which is a) embarrassing a b) forcing you to compare the two, which is not a comparison it comes out of favourably.

Bad acting, bad writing, bad action. Wank wank wank. It's fucking awful and guaranteed to get cancelled.
Just seen it, completely agree. I can see what they might have been trying to do but it's just not done well enough to pull it off. There's enough of a glimmer to see that it could have been decent but it's so far off executing it well.

It really isn't very good. Which leads me to question why I'm still continuing to watch it without fail.

You just want to see naked pull-ups again, don't you?

It is definitely a guilty pleasure only to be watched with your brain firmly in the OFF position.

Still watching it every week though. Don't really know why.

Emphasis on bad. Workmate wouldn't shut up about how excited he was this was coming out.

I watched the first ep and couldnt believe how shit it was.  its just bland and full of pretty people trying to look pretty or moody.

Havent been back and the comments in here confirm my choice was the right one.

Yeah, it's terrible but very watchable. It's regular viewing for me now, for no apparent reason: the acting isn't very good, the plots don't hang together, the tone veers wildly, John Barrowman (John Barrowman, for crying out loud) is one of the baddies and is supposed to be sinister.
It shouldn't work, yet I'm finding it all rather enjoyable.

It does have that one guy from other stuff as Diggle, he's pretty decent and deserved a supporting role, and it's got the guy who played Harry Dresden in the Dresden Files show that got quickly cancelled (he was decent, the show was a bit pants) so it's nice to see him getting work.
