so is any one else cursing nanowrimo being in November while the games release schedule gets going?

I'm itching to play Xcom and Dishonoured, but know that if I do, my novel will never get done. Gah!

Always happens. Last year it was Skyrim. Just have to be disciplined - no play before daily word count hit =)

I'm going to start some planning this weekend, assuming I can get the cover and layout for my new short story collection done.

And of course I need some time for XCOM :-)

Off topic but I'm looking for some votes in a flash fiction competition if anyone is willing?

My planning is progressing pretty well. I have 160 sections planned of my choose your own adventure sort of book, out of what will probably be 350 to 400 in total. So far there are 18 different ways to die. It may be a bit hard.

    Have voted for you Techno

Thanks - I haven't progressed much this weekend, although I did get the formatting for my short stories done, so that should go live by tomorrow. So not a fruitless weekend.

And XCOM is great fun :-)

Ten reasons you should do nanowrimo.

Likewise, I also need to get my plan sorted! It's sort of there, in my head. I've had the general plot arc in place for a while now: characters, beginning, a couple of major events, and the finale. I just need a very brief chapter-by-chapter summary to make sure I don't go off on one...

Oh, and another up vote for you TechnoHippy. Liked the 'flash story'. :0)

    Why look, it's a blog:

P.S. tried the X-COM demo and it's very nice, as is the Forza Horizon demo. Both shall have to wait till post November otherwise there'll be no chance of getting my NaNO sorted...

    ^^^ this.

I'd sort of lost hope that the idea I was toying with would ever come to anything, but today I found a whole bunch of notes and ideas I scribbled out months ago and maybe there is something in it after all?

I need to take those and do a proper snowflake - that worked wonders for me last year.

Not sure if I'm going to do any planning, I kind of enjoyed just seeing what happened last year. I do need to set up a new blog though

As well as writing a first draft for Book Two, NaNo will also be the kick up the proverbial I need to start a blog. Been meaning to do it for ages but never got round to it.

Nano, Blog, and Twitter. Going to be a busy month!

Fate always conspires to make me ludicrously busy whenever nano's turn up...

You can sleep in December! ;0)

Edit: and good luck for the interview!

This thread certainly seem a little slower in taking off than last year - get it into gear people!

Have people got their "elevator" pitches ready yet? You know, the 15 to 20 word explanation of you novel?

I'm shit at those at the best of times =) I'm not sure I could come up with decent ones for the last two and I know what they're about!

No, no idea whatsoever yet. :-)

I'm immune to game releases since giving up the consoles but as with last year I'm away at Centerparcs with the family for a week during November. Last time I promised myself I'd get loads of writing done whilst I was there but I was so wiped by the time the kids went to bed that I never touched the keyboard once.

I'm stuck in a hotel for a couple of nights on a business trip next week, I might try to use that time to draft up some ideas

Not sorted my pitch yet yet. Or chapter plan.

Not sure I'm happy about the way that November's already creeping up on me...

I can't commit to this year due to the maternal duties that began last NaNo but I would like to offer my services as sounding board/brainstorming assistant - both to help out and so I might vicariously participate in the process ;)

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

I will come crying to you as soon as it all starts going horribly wrong =D
Which it always does at some point.

@techno I'll be doing likewise as usual, but local's offer is handy for discussing some extremely spoilerific tangles without ruining any reader's fun =)

Still desperately trying to finish last years before the end of Oct. I'm slowly getting back in the zone, but I spend half my time going back and checking details that I've forgotten.

Definitely going to do it again (and blog it again), but no planning for me. I did nothing in 2010 and it went ok. Did a load of planning last year, and, well... 11.5 months later and it still ain't done.

Only question is, do I send Able and Co out again, or do I do something different?

Good news is, like Rhythm, I'm being sent away from home on a course, so I'll have 4 nights at the beginning of November, stuck in an Edinburgh hotel.

Ought to be able to get some writing done then.

@boo I'm pretty sure over-planning was what caused my horrific overrun last year too. I suspect some of us are just meant to mostly wing it.

What's your gut telling you to write? What do you keep going back to in your mind? Have you had the nigh obligatory 'better idea' that always seems to crop up in an effort to derail the planned idea or is it all still blank due to working on the last one?

I've got so much other stuff going on at the moment - I get to find out tomorrow what my new job is, I'm trying to sell my Mum's house at the moment, in 6 weeks I find out where our office is moving to, after which Mrs Boo and I are going to start looking at moving house, I've just started my 3rd year of Japanese evening classes, and I'm falling way behind, I'm trying to get back into archery on a regular basis but haven't been for 4 weeks on the trot...

The first time I'm going to think about Nano is on Nov 1st!
