What on earth do I do with this then?
I suppose I better read up on upgrade paths. I am tempted by a zoom for my engineer, but there are about 10 you can have. I like the idea of being a support role that just hangs back a small bit from the front line.

|How do classes work then? Can I switch class as many times as I want or am I stuck with my choice?|
andytheadequate wrote:From what I can see, you can change at spawn, you can change at certain terminals and the Sunderer deployment vehicle.
There are some upgrades that cost only 1 cert point, so it is worth going in and unlocking those from the off. Also picking a role and working at it.
I'm thinking of sticking with the Engineer and then upgrading the Sunderer.
You can unlock more loadout slots it seems, so once you start to acquire bits, you can vary your setup.
I wish there was more of a breakdown of the optics available. I cannot tell what the advantages of each is from the descriptions.

You can swap classes on demand to suit the situation (via death or a terminal in a base.)|
There is a metric shit load to learn, I'm just scratching the surface. I really need to a guide to what all the different icons in the base are.
I keep hearing about the generator but I've yet to find one.
Oh I can actually help here with my wealth of experience (one evening). Symbols in bases tend to refer to terminals. You’ll get ones that you can get vehicles from, ones that let you change your loadout and class, ones that will let you warp to new planets.|
The generators are housed in buildings and tend to have a tank or a weapon sign on the hud. These power the shields that you see scattered around.
You can fix them, from an offensive perspective I have noted you can overload them (although my efforts to do this didn't seem too fruitful, I made one go all dangerous looking, and then it just stablised), and sometimes I have seen blown up ones I cannot fix for some reason. I am starting to wonder if you need to have overall control of an area to be able to fix things.
Wander around a big base for a while and you’ll get to grips with these. That is from my couple of hours anyway!
I have seen icons that look like little bridges or an arch, I think those represent smaller locations to take over.

|Is there something wrong with the steam version of this? My brother and house mate downloaded the steam version and get nothing but lag and crashes. One I got from the site runs fine.|
I've had a few goes with the steam version, and had no issues. /touch wood|

|Station cash buys weapons and prettiness, 170 space points ain't a lot, the good guns cost a grand. Got 4100 from the alpha squad pre order. Waiting till I decide on an outfit and server before spending them.|

Some are uniform across all, some are specialised.

|Do you gain station cash in game as well then?|
andytheadequate wrote:Nop, station cash is the real-money bit, basically. 170 will buy you a camo or two.
I will be on tonight (this time) and sorting outfit invites/squad invites properly so we can run as a proper group, prob from around half 7-8ish. One night of running with a few experienced guys should answer pretty much all your questions; it's surprisingly intuitive once you get the hang of it, but like Magic says there so much to learn it can be a bit much to begin with.
|I'll be on tonight around 11ish if you're still on. My username is andytheadequate. If you could send me an invite that would be great, looking forward to playing it as part of a squad|
Widge wrote:Hop in the game's the easiest thing. You can buy pretty much everything: camos, weapons, equipment upgrades, vehicle upgrades, aircraft upgrades etc. Only stuff you can't spend SC on are the 'character' upgrades - e.g. improving your repair gun, weapon sights etc. Those are certs only.
EDIT: you were asking about the sights, when/if you're on tonight I'll take you through each one.
@ Andy - yep mate, I'll still be on then. Add 'Saul' when you login and I'll get you set up. Same goes for anyone else not already in the outfit - hop on from half 7 8ish tonight, add Saul, and join the party.

|Does anyone know if it's worth getting a membership to skip parts of the login queue? Last time I was on, the members queued number never seemed to change all that much. Not that I'd go for it just for that - boosts seem nice enough. Just curious|

|Is there an easy way to play with EG folk? I'm a bit lost going in there on my own.|
It does shift, but only every 15-30 seconds or so. I sat at the end of a 300 strong queue and it took 5 mins to get in.
I'm hoping to use that Social tab thing to add people in the hope it can drive me towards some squad action.

|Now logging in, those who want in follow above instructions|
|I'll try, but it's been taking me ages to get in a game.|
Yeah I'm stuck in the queue as well, sigh.|
EDIT: If your queue is static and not moving for long periods, leave the queue and hit play again and you should see it begin to move. It'll cost you your spot, but if it's not moving, you might wait for ages and not get in at all.
