Poking my nose around the realms of front room gaming again, this thing looks like a good host for bits and pieces:

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-073-BX&groupid=2362&catid=2279&subcat=

Love the fact that it can host proper graphics cards, meaning if I do decided to flesh this thing out, I can just transfer the 660 I have sat on my desk right now from my upstairs PC to that and leave the beast to be a big fat storage unit for media and gubbins.

Armoured Bear, how have you found cramming all that into the Lian Li? Love their cases (have the full PC50-B right now).

CPU, CPU Cooler, RAM are installed on the motherboard, case fans are installed.
I'm just waiting on the soundproofing and GPU to arrive tomorrow, there is loads of space in the case, I'll post pics when it's finished.

    Wohoo, It's finished!
    W7 installed, Steam games downloading....

I just need to change the CPU fan cable to ultra noise as I can't seem to get and control over it via the motherboard unlike the chassis fans.
Maybe a bit of dampening for the Blu-Ray Drive and that's it, may actually play games tonight :-)

Download Speedfan to control your fans. You can even do a temperature/rpm curve to suit your needs.

Go to Configure, Advanced. Click on whatever chip controls your fans (most likely something that reads like ITxxxx at xxxx on ISA).

Change the PWM modes to Software controlled. Tick "Remember it" for each.

Also in the bios change the fan modes to manual too.

    What motherboard are you using?
Thanks a lot rodpad, I've updated the bios, I'll try the other part this evening.

    Thanks mate,

I'm really impressed with the fans, at idle the machine is inaudible from the seated position, when running at load the GPU fans spun up a bit but it seems quieter and less annoying than the consoles despite the power.
I runs the fans really slowly but temps seem low.
I'm very, very pleased so far.
I'm sure that soundproofing the case helped quite a bit, I may add a bit more again.

Any games that have made you go "wow" in terms of graphics (relative to your previous experiences with consoles)?

Check out Trine 2, think there's a demo of it. That looks beautiful at 1080P.

So far I've played Alan Wake AN, Witcher 2 and had quick looks at Metro 2033 and Batman:AA.
They all look fantastic to be fair, the massive improvement in image quality, lack of jaggies and smoothness is fantastic. I'm really impressed and so glad I did it.

I haven't had as much time to play as I'd like but hopefully will get loads more time this week.

At the distance I'm playing (3.5m or so) I could benefit from a bigger TV, I might try and get a 65" one in December if the deals around are still as good.

I'll try the Trine 2 demo, screens look lovely.

Shame the actual game is poor though.

I'm in the same boat as AB, just bought a pc for the first time in 10 years and looking at games that I can't play on the consoles. Not really bothered about graphics but you can't get games like planetside 2 and world of tanks on consoles. Hopefully my new pc will be able to play new games for a good few years...
