    Nicely put.

Are you not rushing into buying the Lumia 930 Mr. Ror? Is one persons (Baihu) opinions seemingly worth more than others?

... go to a phone shop and play about with it; you may well end up feeling underwhelmed just like me. The Lumia 930, apart from the camera, has little going for it that that it makes you wonder if you could just hold on for a few months to see where Microsoft are going with Nokia, now that they are part of their company.

Not only that, it'll be much cheaper - bet it will be roundabout £350 come September time.

Locked to EE unfortunately however, EE or not, that is a good deal.

... a shame you cannot get the freebie bobbins as it looks like you have to sign a 24 months contract (to claim them).

I still believe in Windows Phone. And I haven't tried the supposedly even better 8.1 yet either.

Since the beginning I've liked the Metro design philosophy of flat, plain, easy-to-read graphics and text, panoramic scrolling and Live Tiles (and much of this has since been heavily copied by iOS and Android it must be said).

Tbf, I don't really make much use of 'apps'(ugh). Music, videos, photo's, etc do for me, what little app functionality I need that isn't in the Store I can get via the internet. But I accept that isn't the case for everyone.

Really, Microsoft are too fucking slow at everything, and need to get Windows 9 out YESTERDAY (marketing: hey, Start Menu is back and Metro apps can be windowed, yay!), with Windows Phone 9 out right alongside it, and universal apps from day one so they can both scale up together, quickly.

I like the font WP8 uses.

    That's about it.

Cheers. I was getting about sixty hours out of a charge on my 920 until recently, but then I've been charging it wirelessly a lot more over the last few weeks and that charge seems run out quicker.

Nah, not really. I'd read up on it and watched a lot of reviews anyway - I was going to get one until a couple of weeks ago, as I said. I decided to wait and see what McLaren looked like, but that's apparently been canned now.

I use my phone's camera a lot, so that's the upgrade I'd feel most - that, and the extra high-amplitude mics for taking video of live music, which I do a lot with my 920.

As for the cost, I've been sitting on an upgrade for a few months (originally because I was waiting for the 930 to release), so it won't cost me anything up front and I can also switch to a better contract (though it will be 24 months rather than 18). Also, I quite like the idea of having one of the last 'Nokia' Nokia phones.

    I'm still mulling it over.

Yeah, this is pretty much my usage, too - I tend to use the browser for most things, though certain apps are a nice convenience (Natwest and Supertube are probably my most-used).

How come you've not been tempted by the 8.1 dev preview, Hacienda?

Welp, that's that. Went all the way through the online order process only to have to call up as the order had to be 'referred' to a call centre person. Went through the whole thing again on the phone (with a very friendly South African chap), to be told that the phone is out of stock.

I'll go into town tomorrow and do it instore. Which is really what I should've done anyway.

@Mageme Haha, I did wonder. I'm glad you mentioned the 1520 actually, I really should take a look at one in person before making my mind up, even if I do think I'll prefer the 930.

New 940 getting announced next week. Microsoft must have been saving that for after the Nokia purchase as the true flagship. Looks amazing.

The actual phone is brighter. I think the fact that it's matte brings it down a notch - this colour in gloss would be a bit too much.

Yeah, actually the best thing ever! ;)

Good that it's matte though, hate shiny backed phones.

The thing is, knowing my luck that will happen ;)

I love my glossy white 920, but bright colours like this in gloss would definitely look gaudy.

Don't worry searchs for the 940 only beings up some old Nokia headset.† If it was a rumour it would be everywhere.

Anyway anyone had luck getting that £350 from EE with bits and bobs bundle? Mixed stuff online about some getting only on contract and some sim only.

    @Sharzam I did do a quick search when I read oceanmotion's comment :p

I got my freebies from EE today, but I am a contract customer, so that doesn't help you. I was surprised to find that, aside from the freebies, you get both a standard and wireless charger in the phone box.

Anyway, I saw a thread on WPC yesterday that seems to suggest you can stick your IMEI into a Nokia site to get a freebie kit. I'll see if I can find it now.

    EDIT Give this a look.

Ooh, that new live lock screen app is up! Great for your new 930, Ror! It's in beta so runs a bit slow, hopefully we'll see an update soon!

My free gear turned up. The wireless charger is going to be very useful and the mini speaker is really good quality.

Can also use the £20 gift card on my Xbox One.

Aren't all of Microsoft systems now connected anyway,† you don't have a live account you just have a Microsoft one.

So credit is shared between,† mobile, tablet, desktop† and xbox? Brings neatly to have they merged purchases yet,† like apps and video?

True, I didn't think of that. I guess I was just thrown a bit by it saying "£20 App Voucher", rather than "£20 Microsoft Account credit" :p

That's great though, I'm much more likely to use it for XBO content than I am for apps.

The rubber on the bottom seems to keep mine from dancing across the surface, though I have only tested it briefly. Also, maybe put it on something metal - it's slightly magnetic.

The instructions leaflet works. Only does it when on full volume.
