I saw a decent enough deal on the EE site for it yesterday (£29/mo for 1000 min/unlmtd texts/1GB 4G data), and was quite tempted, but I think I'm going to wait.

We'll see how long I hold out.
EE are crap and are known for raising the monthly fee several times during contracts.

@Baihu1983 Their prices do seem to be coming down though. When I last upgraded (Nov '12), they tried to move me from Orange onto EE and the contracts were utterly ridiculous.

So I am updating to 8.1, with any luck this will fix my 925 and stop it heating up like the surface of the sun!

Also do I get Cortana now?

Got my 930. Very nice phone and better than the 925 which I really liked anyways.

With the McLaren supposedly dead, I'm back to considering it. Not sure what to do now tbh.

I already have a free wireless charger from my 920, but another certainly wouldn't hurt. The speaker might come in handy.

Hmm... I don't know. Might pop into town one day this week and have a fondle of one.

On my lunch break today, I had a good play about with the Lumia 930 and to my mild surprise, I left the store perfectly happy and content with my twenty months old Lumia 820.

Honestly, apart from the camera, which is very good, and aluminium material being used across the board including a strikingly orange and green coloured back cover, it is absolutely no different to the very first two Windows Phone 8 phones, the Lumia 820 and 920.

In fact, I'd go as far and say that since it was unveiled back in the middle of March earlier this year, the extraordinary long wait - over four blooming months - has left me disappointed in the manner at the length of time this phone took from being announced to being available in a phone shop to buy. It is absurd; ridiculous!

It makes Apple, Google, HTC and Samsung look like marketing geniuses by showing a new product and saying, 'you can buy (or pre-order) this in one weeks time'.

Also, and no offence to Mr. Baihu however, he seemingly buys almost every new Microsoft hardware under the sun so, of course, he is going to be impressed after dropping £450 on this long overdue phone, but it left me feeling decidedly the opposite:

    ... unimpressed.

Windows Phone is fucked unless they start releasing more updates and phones. Market share in the UK has started to drop after reaching about 9% at it's peak...

If it continues to fail, I'm going to have to pull out myself.

    Ewww

Windows Phone is just fine. The only thing stopping me from getting a 930 right now is that I'm still in contract (earliest I can upgrade is end of September). That free handset for £29.99 a month on 4G is actually a decent deal and cheaper over the 24 months than buying the handset and getting a sim only deal.

The API is rubbish that's why, they've improved it with the 8.1 update, but they are as slow as pig shit to roll that update out so it won't matter for another year or so. They really drop the ball with this phone, which has a great interface and could have been supported better.

Hardly the slowest. Nearly a year on and KitKat market share on Android has only recently hit double digits.

I was all set to buy a 930 on EE PAYG, they refused to include the charger bundle unless I went contract. So I flashed the rom on my phone to speed it up.

Think I will grab an EE sim before I commit or think about a contract. Another option is just to wait for the price to drop below the £300 mark,† which is sure with Windows phones.

In regards to updates things have improved over the last year and it looks like its still improving.

Woke up to see 3 app updates already installed for me.

Of which 5,750,000 of them are highly likely to be the Lumia 520 and 620/625, me thinks.

... I see them everywhere, the lowest priced multi-coloured Lumia phones, whereas the high end models are a very rare sight indeed.

I love the UI on my Lumia however, the more I use my iPad, the more dire the apps situation becomes. I don't think I have actually purchased anything on my phone on the store this year. It is a skeleton in a cupboard compared to what I find daily on my iOS device.

Reports that MS may be thinking about dropping Xbox Music and Video. If true then :-( If anything add it to the Gold Subscription as a way to compete with Amazon.

Well they can't add it to a Gold sub, as it's more expensive. I'd quite like them to do it the other way around, though.

I hope they don't drop it, I use XBM daily.

Yeah just saw that and I hope the big upcoming patch fixes the offline play issue that effects some songs.

A man can dream, but hopefully Nadella's talk of 'streamlining' the music and video offering means working it into Gold in some way - perhaps a bundle that's cheaper than each separately. I'd be up for that.

@Baihu1983 Have you noticed your 930 heating up a bit? I was reading about it on WPC earlier, so thought I'd ask.

I'm sitting on the EE page umming and ahhing about upgrading to it... I'd been looking forward to upgrade for a few months, but decided to wait when they took so long woth the 930. But I don't want to wait 'til the end of the year and find there's nothing to replace the McLaren.

    Decisions!

@Baihu1983 About what I expected tbh - my 920 can get ridiculously hot anyway, so I wasn't too worried. How are you finding battery life?

@Ror1984 Very good so far but I've not downloaded my games yet which could drain my 925 a bit.

Also it's nice that it now says 'owned' on apps you have purchased rather than buy.

I have an 820 and to be honest don't see the point in a more powerful one, the apps are not there. I love the interface, I wish I had got an iphone though. I had a galaxy S4 before this, I think the iphone is the best of both worlds, polished interface (though not as clever as windows) and thriving app store.

Windows Phone is like getting on a train that you think is really nice at first, fancy seats etc. and then eventually you realise it is not going anywhere and get bored and just want to get off.

I have the yellow charging case for mine. That's what it's like a very superficial, immature dumb blonde, that does your head in eventually with shallowness.

@Baihu1983 Getting to grips with 8.1 for the first time? There's a lot of nice little improvements in there.

I think my 920 battery life's taken a bit of a hit with 8.1, so the 930 might actually be a little better.

I think I might just go for it.
