But the events of it are. Official comic re-telling the events of the film is confirmed canon by Whedon.

No, you're not. The comics mean nothing either.

It wasn't a spin-off or a tie in. The film may as well have never happened.
If you want to get *really* pedantic, the film is actually still canon (in one way or another, the basic events happened but not quite as depicted in the film). The series makes some vague references to it a few times, and iirc it's also referenced in Season 8.
Holy fuck. This isn't me being a pedantic geek. I'm saying that spin-ff TV series that try to piggyback on the success of a movie are universally shit. Buffy doesn't do that.

If the competition is to be the biggest loser Buffy fanboy then please, allow me to graciously bow out. You win.

Buffy, in fact, is the polar opposite of most spin offs in that its source material was SO shit, nobody gave the series a hope in hell.

Also, I would love it if in the first episode, a gaggle of familiar actors found theselves transported into an altenate 'Verse.

Yeah honestly its Shield, then on airdate.... BAM! Firefly season 2!

Regardless, a new show with Whedon involved is always a good thing.

Whedon gave them a blatant way out of that in the first film if they wanted to bring him back.

The whole conversation about the cards coming from his locker, rather than his jacket because they needed something to avenge.

It doesnt explicitly say 'HES NOT DEAD' but it, as far as I could see, really heavily implies it.

I thought the cards just implied that Fury is willing to resort to underhand tactics, in order to get the Avengers together.

Yeah that's what I thought too. Reading into that that he's still alive is too much IMO.

I always thought Jarvis would make a better fit for Vision in the film universe tbh.

Although there's not much point having Vision without Wanda, and she's tied up with the X-Men license.

I thought right when I was watching it that there was an obvious get out. You never actually see him die, you just hear Fury mention it over the intercom.

Throw in the mention of Life Model Decoys earlier in the film, Fury's reputation for trickery and cover-ups and how he states that Coulson is his "good eye", and both Marvel and Whedon's reputations for bringing people back from the dead and there is wriggle room to bring him back, if they were so inclined.

Alternatively, the series could be a prequel which might work better, particularly as Whedon has stated it will be autonomous from the movie universe.

We do see him die, he says a final slightly humourous line and stops breathing with no medical help around iirc.

When watching the scene with Fury and the cards, the emotional aspect and the tone of Hill's(?) lines, played more on Fury being underhanded and his questionable morals in using Coulson's death for his own ends.

They have also, introduced him into the wider marvel world, so killing him off isnt something Marvel would see as profitable.

So stick that up your big, fat arse.

Rather cool job application by artist Adam Levermore to try and land a job in the art department for the SHIELD series.

That is fantastic - hope he gets hired, as he certainly deserves it for that stroke of genius
