Just updated and I thought it would be hard to make the dash worse than last years but they have done a sterling job in blowing they thoughts out of the window. A home screen should have information on they games you play and your profile stuff like game in the box, account info and achievements. More sub menus of menus.

Right now I have the large square giving me a halo 4 advert, the 4 smaller squares of adverts including men in black 3, lego lotr, netflix, forza horizon and kinect.

Why not giver the subscriber control of their home screen, no doubt to much to ask.

Why do we need to be subjected to advertising when we pay for our gold subs every year.
For a start that information is on the following screen (social). Is it really a deal in any shape or form that you have to move your stick to the right once to get this information?

I still don't get people's problem with the dash. It's not something you should looking at or worrying much about at all. Everything you need is accessible through the Guide and Xbox.com.

Its all about ease of use, as someone who worked in web design for 11 years I find that navigation to relevant information is important. My problem with the dash is that it should be fully customisable. I only want to see the information that is relevant to me and my gaming profile. I do not want advertising stuck on every screen. I pay for my gold sub I don't see why I should need advertising on a service I will never use such as Netflix or i love film. Why does this annoy me? because each year I hear at E3 how you are in control of your live experience and you can do what you want to do. In reality you can't and information isn't streamlined it is just pushed from one sub menu to another and with the interface being at times non responsive and laggy and hell bent on kinect use even though most of the people who have one don't use it for anything other than the few games they have for it.

I feel like many others that the dashboard is bloated and poorly implemented. We have people like major nelson (gamer my arse) telling us our views are important and that the beta programs work. I can't say I agree after being on 2 and seeing what actual users wanted compared to what is actually released.

For the next gen of consoles I really hope MS and Sony get their user interfaces right and the look and function of them are completely under the users control. With regards to xbox.com that is a painful site to use for a whole number of reasons, their search function never fails to amuse with some of the results it returns to simple search terms.

It does look pretty cluttered now. There are way too many adverts for things i'm really not interested in. Whilst I agree we shouldn't really be seeing adverts when we're paying for the service, I don't mind them all too much. They could at least be kept in their respective sections though.

I'd rather the home page tell me what's in the console, what my most recently played games are, and offer two panels to view my Indie and Arcade game libraries. That's it. Anything non-gaming related should be put in it's respective area, preferably with a similar layout.

How is it that I access you tube through ie on my xbox and I can play all my watch later tracks, but can't play half of them through the youtube app?

    @Puriel

Have you used any 'pins'? That way you're only a couple of clicks away from whatever you're most interested in, although obviously that requires you to go out of your way to pin stuff in the first place.

Almost all of which relate to games. I know it's free but doesn't Steam 'advertise' just as much?

In a way they're just promotional 'shortcuts' to demos and Marketplace screens. I don't really mind them being there if they're just promoting games available on the console.

PSN is free and doesn't have adverts on the dashboard. The adverts are in the store, which is how it should be on the Xbox. XBL subscribers shouldn't have adverts right there when you start the console. I seriously would not be surprised if the next Xbox has banner adverts that scroll across the bottom of the screen every 15 minutes while you're playing a game.

I only got the update today, and as a free user I don't mind all the ads, but it feels a bit busy to me - I'd prefer ads for stuff like Netflix and new movies to stay in the Videos tab (though I'm glad they got rid of the seperate TV one).

As is it just looks like a bit of a mess. Functional enough though, and those Pins will probably be handy.

The worst part of the ads is I have my gold sub and I have a full lovefilm sub. Why would I want an ad for lovefilm on my dash.

I don't get the pins either. I have two of them so far and it takes longer to load those up than it does to simply go into my most recently played list, which both titles are in.

They're not adverts apparently, that's all i'm getting told again and again. They're great and lovely snippets of information to help you purchase more digital licenses for things from Microsoft and we should all be grateful to them for it. Marvelous.

It just looks like clutter to me though and i really find the new flat (not)Metro interface panels to be bland. What's wrong with a bit of drop shadowing? Or is that evil because it won't look like a Windows Phone?

Downloaded the update on my bedroom 360 last night, added a few pins and pretty impressed that when I updated the living room 360 this morning that the pins synced.

Little things like this I appreciate..

I use the pins to keep track of replayable XBLA titles, stuff that I can just stick on and play for ten minutes and then quit - Pinball FX, Pac-Man CE DX, Geometry Wars, etc. Separates those ones out from the list so if I'm looking for a quick fix before tea's ready I'm not having to trawl the whole list or rely on it being in the recently-played list. Works nicely!

@Blerk That's pretty much what I've done. It's a bit of a shame, as someone mentioned before in the thread, that you can't pin any of the video players there. It's still a (somewhat minor) niggle to have to scroll to the right bit to watch something you've stuck on a USB stick.

If you can read this, you don't need glasses.

I was finally prompted for the new dashboard update last night so I left it downloading while I watched some episodes of Sliders on DVD. :D

Initial impressions from a brief 30 minutes of using it is that is a nice improvement on the utterly despicable and horrid one from the last update. Space is better used, even accounting for the larger ads, and things seem to be organised much better and easier to access, e.g. the Marketplace. Also, the dashboard seems to be faster and I'm not seeing that annoying swirling icon as much as before but it may just be a temporary thing as not everyone is using this new update... yet. Hopefully not as the swirling icon was a tedious bore on my system prior to this update as I spent an irritating amount of time looking at it when accessing my Games library and the Marketplace. I never understood why it was so slow when my PS3, on the same wireless connection and right next to my 360, works so much faster. Is it those ads, I wonder, that slow everything down?

I tried Internet Explorer and, yes, it's not that great, true of all console browsers IMO, but it was usable and seemed faster than I expected. Doubt I'll ever use it though.

Overall, I think I like this update far more than the last one as it fixes things that annoyed me such as slow access times, wasted screen space and the poor layout of menus. It's still not as slick or fast as the PS3's XMB and those ads are still annoying but it's an improvement all the same.

They're useful for pinning your favourites. Like others have said, if you want to go back to an old favourite after a few months off it is quite useful to put them on there. It could also be used to pin the games you have yet to play/complete so you don't forget about them. By far my favourite feature of the new dashboard so far.

    My opinion as well.

I see the "ads" in the same way I see a billboard for an upcoming film when I go to the theater. Do those upset people too?

Obviously less is better, but people act like they're shoving McDonald's and furniture store ads in our faces when just about all of it is something related to gaming.

All of you with the updated dash, have you seen any mention of the Shocktober sale on it? Like the THQ sale before it, I cannot find it anywhere, whereas on my non-updated second console it was right there on the main tab...

So any word on when we will be able to download adobe and flash? Loads of stuff won't play on youtube for example. Click on the link and it says xbox does not enable downloads to local storage.

Doesn't matter if it's related to gaming. I don't want to see a Splinter Cell advert any more than I want to see a McDonalds advert.

I'm not against advertising, just keep it in the store. It's clutter and it's annoying, that's all. Gold members should be able to opt out of dashboard ads.

Have you seen the US dashboard. Count yourself lucky. Only a matter of time before MS plaster everything on other ones. There will be all sorts next gen, plenty of space going unused and more varied demographics to aim for next time. MS is only getting started.

Ads should only be in the shop areas and the homepage should be customisable including a god damn full page background. A dream of course but that's what I would like. I imagine some Windows RT dashboard except all tiles are ads next gen.

Noticed Outside Xbox has been put in the Xbox News section. That's good for Andy, Jane and Mike. They kick them out only to welcome them back when they don't have to pay them...unless they do...hm...
