If it wants to be live-action!Evangelion it needs to start out cliche as hell, then have the characters suffer PTSD after the monsters completely rape their souls (while inappropriate classical music plays).

Oh, and it needs a grand finale where Paul McCartney plays "Hey Jude!" while everybody on the planet achieves orgasmic Rapture/dies screaming in agony.

Del Toro gives this some gravitas. This looks gloriously cheesy and awesome.

Yeah I can't wait for this. Rocket powered robot punch ftl.

Also, it's pretty much the only chance of getting a live action Evangelion movie so that's cool.

    Pacific Rim 9/10

    Spoiler free.

Its Robot Jox crossed with Godzilla and its fucking awesome.

The sheer scale of this at times simply amazes,  characterisation and plot goes out to the window as its all about monster robot mash ups. This is so much un Del Torro like feels like a Roland Emmerich film at times. At one point i was having a monster vs robot nerd orgasm..

The introduction of the jaegers into action was stunning. Gotta be seen on the biggest screen possible with the biggest bucket of popcorn.

Forget Trek and Iron Man,  summer starts with this.

Are the action sequences choreographed well? No quick cutting, shaky cam bollocks I'm hoping. As it's GDT, I'd assume they're good.
Glad to hear it's awesome though, it's between this and Man Of Steel for my most anticipated this summer.

Given the scale no its not quick cut etc.  The jaegers dont move that quickly. and its framed to take in the massive scale.

Cool, I'm really quite excited now. I've little interest in Star Trek and I have a feeling Iron Man will piss me off (it sounds a bit too 'busy' and needlessly complex like IM2), so this might be the one film I actually try to see this summer. Now, the missus won't be interested in the slightest, so I just need to find a willing friend or friends.

New trailer that appears to set a less superficial tone: . I really looking forward to it after this one.

Del Toro hasn't made a bad film yet and he must have been very hungry to get back to the camera after an incredibly frustrating time just trying to make a film.

He's one of the few directors who I really trust with big budget, or smaller scale films.

So for the film, they built an actual set for the robot's head. Insane.

Now that is EXACTLY the level of commitment I love to see from a big budget film. Fuck excess CG. Fuck it.
