Shoots it's load with the finale? Isn't that what films are meant to do? I'm confused fused why that's a bad things, surely if it shot it's load halfway through its a problem, but at the end?

Personally, I thought it was excellent. Way better than 2 and possibly my favourite of the 3. Very funny too.

Haven't seen the film yet... but is there any kind of reference to the Avengers: Phase 2 in this then? The obligatory post credit sequence?

Panic attacks about New York but that's it.

@CosmicFuzz What I mean by 'shooting it's load' is that it leaves no room for Iron Man to grow from that point. In further films I mean. It's like taking out the big rockets (possibly quite literally) and firing them off before the end of show. It was also rather cheap i thought, a waste of some great possibilities..

@M83J01P97 There is an obligatory end credit sequence. Right at the end I hasten to add and it's hardly worth it. If you can't be arsed waiting for it, then:

There is a dumb scene at the end where Bruce Banner acts as a psychiatrist for Tony Stark and falls asleep while Tony is talking.

@riz23 ah ok, yeah I see what you mean.

Spoiler: I think it might actually be the last stand alone IM film we get, given the way it ended. With his chest reactor taken out etc. Although obviously they'll find a way to bring him back in the suit for Avengers 2.

@CosmicFuzz Our post cinema date discussions in the pub would be pretty entertaining I think! And no, that is not an offer! ;-)

I have to hand it to them, the Mandarin twist was quite something, I'm amazed it wasn't ruined before the films release. Especially as Guy Pearce said that his role in the film was almost like a cameo.

I really liked it. Didn't like 2 at all, but this one struck a nice balance. Thumbs up!

Hmmm, not bad but not great. Far better than IM2 but not a patch on IM1.

    7/10

Some rather great posters for IM3 on sale this Friday from the always excellent Mondo

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

    Just got back.

Was bored throughout, don't think I'll bother with anymore of these.

Most notable thing was Lambert and Chaplow from Saints two rows down. They stayed 'til the end of the credits too.

There were other bits and pieces like the reference to Thor's hammer falling to Earth and some vague reasoning as to why the Avenger's aren't being assembled early on.

I think the panic attacks were attributed to him knowing that there's an army just waiting to get to Earth but it was all rather unconvincing.

I really enjoyed it and I think it's almost as good as IM1 but not quite due to the nature of IM1 being the opening film and having a clearer narrative. I think there were funnier moments in IM3 especially regarding the twist.

Talk about a trailer not accurately representing a film!

The problem with most of the comedy is not that it took anything away from the action scenes, it's that it just wasn't very funny.

Avengers mixed humour with action almost perfectly, but I guess it goes without saying Joss Whedon > Shane Black.

    Get bent.

Woah there... Shane Black has a great record!
Lethal Weapon 1 & 2, Monster Squad, Last Boy Scout, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and now Iron Man 3.

Are there any post-release discussions/interviews with the director/creators regarding the decision to make the Mandarin a boozed up actor rather than an all powerful villain?

I think its because if you did the mandarin 'properly' it would be learry lacist and you dont want to upset the chinese.

Also hes a 'magic' character and magic hasnt really been introduced as a thing in the marvel movie universe.

    Im more upset that you think I would get upset by that. Thats really upset me ;_;

Also I dont think its quite a spoiler. it doesnt really reveal anything other than hes not magic or chinese, both of which you can get from the trailer. But better to be safe than sorry, I suppose.

Superhero movies are huge in China, the midnight premiere of IM3 was sold out in all the local cinemas here. If they had stuck to the original comics then it would have almost certainly been banned or cut to fuck over here.

DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT: I thought the story was better then the other iron man films, the mandarin twist was brilliant and Ben Kingsley was great. I thought it took a little while to get funny but in the end it had some good laughs. The issues I had were the main action scenes were not that great and they had some strange overuse/underuse of the suits. 1 minute AIM can't get the guy out of the iron patriot, the next they have the president flying around in it under their control and if Stark can get 40 super suits to fly around on their own why didn't he do that earlier, maybe I missed something but it just didn't make sense to me. 1 minute he is jumping in and out of suits, the next he lets Paltrow fall to her death etc. That whole final action sequence just bugged me.

Overall 6.5/10 If you haven't seen it don't bother waiting till the scene at the end of the credits its not worth it

Thor has magic, but not in the same way. I wonder what they would do with Dr Strange.

Thor was pretty much handwaved as a 'sufficiently advanced alien', so its implied its all technology.
