So VEEP, the spiritual spin-off to brilliant The Thick Of It, finally starts tonight in the US. Should be great, considering most of the guys from TTOI are behind it.

    Let the swearing commence!

Those of another generation: It's Armando Iannucci.

Really awkwardly horribly funny. Wonder how it will go down over there?

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

Iannucci is doing a live chat right now if you fancy popping him a question!

As well as the Armistice shows, wasn't he a key man behind The Day Today (and a bunch of rather good radio 4 shows too)?
Before the Thick Of It and In the Loop he was quietly getting on with being rather good, for years and years.

Why do these threads never tell you what channel these things are on?

    It's in the thread title...?

In the books, the spin doctor guy was actually a Red Wizard of Thay.

My vocabulary is already infected by this after only one episode. Today I have used the terms "Hoist by our own retard" to describe the actions of a colleague, and pencil-fucked to describe the removal of several points in a speech we supplied to a minister that were removed.

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

I thought it was brilliant. But then I do love epic failure. And grown-ups swearing.

Will just have to take the plunge and see what's then.

It is indeed good, and renewed for a 10 episode second season already.

Chris Morris directs episode 7 of this season, which should be a highlight.

Wasn't funny for me (1st episode). Seems to rely a lot on vulgarity and foul language for the sake of it.

Checked out the pilot. Liked. Will watch again.

Although I did keep on expecting Larry David to turn up for some reason.

I found the subsequent episodes slightly less funny, although all had some great lines, Iannucci's creative use of language runs throughout.

I had the same problem with The Thick Of It though - after a while their glaring incompetence starts to depress me, because I know it's probably not so far from the truth, and people like this really are running our countries.

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

Loved the first episode not least because of Buster! Promising start, not quite as good as The Thick of It but excellent nonetheless

I've not got around to watching "The Thick of It" or the film, are there any links to those or can I watch this without the predecessors?

Veep stands alone from what came before.

Season 2 starts April 14th. Hopefully it'll be on Sky Atlantic pretty much straight away as per last year.

    Yay.

It's due to be shown in June over here. Atlantic seem to have developed this annoying habbit of only showing shows shortly after the American air date when they prove to be popular over here.

    Fuckers.

Ah well, April already has GoT and Mad Men. Might work out quite well saving it for June. Maybe that's why they've done it in fact.

First episode of S2 was directed by one Christopher Morris. Still sharp as ever.

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.
