The thing I find most refreshing is the warts-and-all realism of some of the more awkward scenes. Although this is often countered by the over-the-top quirkiness of some of the characters. Adam particularly. Still, he's growing on me.

Has anyone watched the film she made before this? I noticed it on Netflix the other day but it seems to have mixed reviews.

Tiny Furniture? Yeah, I have seen it as my other half is a big fan of Girls. It's alright, quite similar (including using many of the same cast members) but more autobiographical (has her mum and sister in it playing her mum and sister) and a bit slower/more drawn out.

It's been on film 4 and will no doubt be repeated there shortly.

    Might give it a try.

No mention of the nudity yet either? Sometimes it just seems shoehorned in for no particular reason. Sure it's refreshing to see someone without the traditional body shape on TV but do we really need to see her naked every week?

it's a bit weird the nudity. It is shoehorned and unnecessary, and yet I hypocritically find myself hoping each week that perhaps this will finally be the episode where the fit one gets them out.

You might have all convinced me. Shame I've missed a series and a half, with it nowhere near popular streaming content. In the UK anyway

All it took was a mention of tits...

I had to leave this to the wife to watch come season 2, lena dunham is making me asexual. Every time I look at it she's naked and fannying around like a fudd(i'd use frolic but that would imply something desirable). I've had enough of her after Tiny Furniture(3/10 Pointless, like her physicality) and Season 1.

I was all for adding this to SickBeard until Spanky mentioned Lena Dunham naked.

    Eugh.

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

Well all respect to her doing it but... old people and down syndrome sex, behind closed doors please, not on my TV.

I just saw the name Daniel Glover on the first page and immediately decided its at least worth a go.

Donald Glover. Not Danny Glover. He's too old for this shit.

"Eugh"? That's one of the highlights in my book.

Although I will concede her tattoos are rubbish.

Saw this week's last night. Was a bit of a low point yeah. I guess it was sort of supposed to be a bottle episode, but it just highlighted how crucial the supporting cast are.

Yeah, same. Really didn't help the constant criticism that the show is a bit of a Lena Dunham vanity trip, either.

Much better this week, the stolen dog storyline was particularly good.

    :D LOL

I honestly don't know how I made that mistake. I meant Donald but somehow typed Daniel. Whats more strange to me is that if I meant to type Danny Glover, I would have typed Danny, not Daniel.

Anywho, watched the first season of this over the weekend with the missus, found it mostly enjoyable.

You're welcome. I can never remember when this is on over here so didn't want to post any spoilers but I'm fairly sure it must be a TV first.

Good episode though, I think is this show is definitely at it's best when it's a bit darker.

I didn't actually realise the Hannah girl wrote the show. I don't know if that makes it better or worse that she is probably the most unlikeable character I've seen recently.

    Get bent.

Season 2 seems to be disappearing up its own arse a little too much for its own good, if you ask me. Every episode seems to be trying to out-wacky the last and Hannah's OCD seems so out of character.

I agree. Season 2 is forgetting to be funny is now very much just about Lena Dunham's ego. Find it suddenly really boring and pretentious now, having loved the first season.
  • Deleted user 12 March 2013 10:31:44
Even though they're all quite extreme characters, I found the first season entirely believable. The second not so much.

I also can't decide if the fact that I watched the whole first season in a week has any bearing on it. Whereas with season 2 I'm having to settle for one episode a week, and as the episodes are so short, they're over before you know it.

Season 1 also seemed to have more a thought-through arc, whereas season 2 seems to be a series (excuse the pun) of set-pieces or anecdotes shoe-horned into a full episode. Adam is growing on me, though.

Oh and what the fuck was up with Shoshonna sleeping with that bellboy having waited 20-odd years to lose her virginity and then finding a boyfriend she genuinely seemed to love. Again, totally out of character.

I think it's just moving in a different direction, the last few episodes have had a bit of a Six Feet Under vibe.
