    HOW ARE YOU MERRY GENTLEMEN

Now the pleasantries are out the way courtesy of that ironically grammatically incorrect statement, let's commence the ranting. A rant about something I am as guilty of as anyone, if not moreso, so don't you come waving your finger of hurt feelings at me, you thin-skinned spacko.

    ...

That thing, right there. Those three dots. Did you see it? Did you? What did your mind make of it? I shall tell you what to make of it RIGHT NOW.

    THIS - ... - IS NOT A PAUSE.

    THIS - ... - IS NOT A SENTENCE TERMINATOR.

This - ... - is an omission of information. This - ... - means something has been purposefully, deliberately left out, usually for dramatic purposes.

"It was something like..." he said before wandering off.

    VALID

"It was something like...a giant arsehole enveloping my head."

    INVALID

    That was...interesting.

VALID BY IMPLICATION OF ALTERNATE MEANING

That was interesting...I don't think so.

    INVALID

I use ellipses where maybe a comma, dash, full stop or even a semi-colon may work...of course I also bathe in my own filth.

    INVALID

I blame Final Fantasy 8. What a load of old shit that was.

Okay. I'm done now. Back to your business of working or eating or whatever it is you people do when I'm not around.

As a frequent user of the ellipses I'd like to share that I use them to substitute fullstops or as you noted a SENTENCE TERMINATOR...

You have not hurt my feelings...Just thought I'd share...

CAN SOMEONE TELL ME HOW TO GET AN EM DASH ON THIS KEYBOARD? THAT'S WHAT YOU NEED -- FOR A DRAMATIC PAUSE.

Edit: Also, the code for the ellipsis, please. As any fule kno, an ellipsis != three full stops.

If you're going to get anal about the use of the ellipsis, you could at least use its proper name.

One of the more annoying internet things is when somebody highlights words in their text by putting them in capitals, bold or italics for no other reason than to accentuate what we can already read in the first place.

This guy's "reviews" are rife with this.

P.S. That's not a stab at you gremster, you used headings and examples.
P.P.S. The review I linked to is so off the mark it makes me want to write this about it.

If you can read this, you don't need glasses.

When placed at the beginning or end of a sentence, the ellipsis can also inspire a feeling of melancholy or longing.
    ... I didn't know that.

Yeah, if you're going to bust guts over things you could at least afford them the correct space after the third dot instead of having the letter sitting on top of it.

    This method is...invalid.

Unlike this method... which is correct.

Nah, you're wrong. Language evolves, you won't go to Hell for using them wrong. All it'll do is annoy you, which relative to the possibility of burning forever in the depths of Hell is pretty good.

I bet half of every Scrubs script was ellipses, or ellipsi. Whatever the plural is.

I STILL CAN'T GET AN EM DASH ON THIS KEYBOARD. Apparently it's alt+0155, but that doesn't work for me.

I can get an ellipsis now though…
